Hey guys I am building a clunker bike but having trouble with brakes. I'm using my Schwinn 24" frame and the brakes seemed to work fine on the original rims (24"x1-3/8"), now I have swapped them out for mountain bike rims also 24" but I think they are 1.75" wide, but it seems like the skinny rims are taller???
Not using these bars at all I'll get pics tomorrow.

The brake is about an inch higher than the rim. Are the skinny rims taller? or am I just having a weird problem? I'm thinking of just re-lacing it to a coaster brake hub and going for a clean bar look, but if there is something simple that can be done I'm all for it.

The Schwinn rims were s5 or s6 which like so many other Schwinn parts are an oddball size in comparison to the rest of the industry. i think you could find a different brake with longer arms to reach your rims.

Yes, MTB, balloon and middleweight bikes use longer brake arms than lightweight rims. Find a BMX or old el cheapo MTB in the trash, or break open the piggy bank and buy some. and buy some.

I got way too many junk bikes to actually spend money.......lol. I already got half the wheel un-laced so I'm just going to go coaster brake on it.
