Hello all!

I'm in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and I rebuild bicycles in my basement. Most of my bicycles are from the scrapyard, with a few coming from resale shops and the like.

My rides are varied, but my preference is 1970's and early 1980's Japanese racers, notably Panasonics; they're tough, come apart easy, and when rebuild go fast. I also have a Canadian-built Sekine SHC (which I adore), a few Raleighs by Gazelle, and a Gudereit from the late 1960's.

Weather permitting, I will start posting some photos of my choicier bicycles for public consumption.

Looking forwards to comments!

Welcome aboard! I've been riding a 80's Sport 500 lately, and I had a too-big-for-me DX-5000 for a brief time... Panasonic made great bikes.

Welcome from a fellow Michiganian. I spent a week in the UP last fall driving all over the eastern end looking in all the junk and scrap yards I could find. I came up empty handed. Most of the yards told me that they had cleaned out the scrap before winter came. The most promising yard was called Misfunction Junction. They had some cool old cars and some "special" things that the owner had set aside for himself. I have a uncle that lives in Barbeau.

Thanks!

Panasonic was indeed a great maker, and I'm happy to have a few to play with. One of them is a very large example, from when they were making bicycles for Schwinn. I'll post photos of that one soon.

Yes, I've had spotty results visiting the scrap yard. One time I came away with some real treasures, other times it's pretty slim pickings (i.e. none). It's really hit-and-miss. At some point I'll post some of my more interesting finds!
