New (to me) 20

Got me a Raleigh 20 at the co-op's garage sale.
Pretty clean and mostly original except the saddle, pedals and handle bars....how the heck did they get bmx bars on it? It's not original, I see a shim.

Loves me some heron

Love me even more on the chain ring

Anyone know how I can find out the year?

Do a search on the serial number is the best bet I can come up with for you.

I have this bike which isn't a folder, but it has the same flavor.

EDIT: The BMX bars are easy to put on, just remove the clamp bolt and you can rotate and slide the cross bar end past the clamp area of the goose neck.

+1, the flattened area of the cross-brace allows the stem to fit through.

Do remember this could be a replacement hub also, but more than likely it is the original.

I was gonna keep it as found but you know I can't do that.
The brakes suck so I plan on replacing them. I got an adapter plate so I'm looking at a v brake in the front and maybe finally use that 7 speed hub I have and use the roller brake in back. Now is a as good of time as any to learn to build wheels

Building is the wheel is the easy part, it is the truing it that takes practice.

that's when a trip to the LBS is in order....Pay them 20 bucks or loose the rest of my hair and feel like a failure?
I would have just spent that 20 dollars on Starbucks anyway.

Mine I believe charged me $10 the last time and $15 before.
