I have a 2005 Schwinn Jaguar that I want to rat out a little with a red springer fork, huge ape hangers, an angled seat post, and a shorty chrome ducktail out back. The problem is that I also want to keep the cantilever brakes on the front. I've only seen one fork offered that has mounts for these brakes, but, it is for a 1-1/8" threadless headset. I know my headset is threaded, and I'm pretty sure it's just 1". Is there anyone who offers a springer with cantilever brake mounts for a 1" threaded headset? Short of fabbing up mounts and welding them onto a new springer, what are my options?

I know that something as new as my bike isn't the greatest raw material to make a rat bike from, but, it's what I have on hand, and I see some potential in it. However, I am a complete newbie at customizing bicycles, and I could REALLY use your comments, suggestions, and help.

You can see pix of the bike, and the head tube here:

Thanks for your help.

Thanks dragsterIII. Those look similar to the pair I found here http://www.choppersus.com/store/product/1047/Fork-Springer-Threadless-1-1-8/, but, for a different size stem, and at a significantly higher cost. The problem for me, with both sets, is that they are threadless. I guess that I could always buy an adapter.

Yeah, I think the bike has potential too, even though it's not old iron. It won't be as fun as an internal gear setup with a coaster brake, but, I'll make sure the next build includes those features.

Big Daddy, i got one of those Chinese Jaguars a while back at a thrift store and i hate the forks that are on it, so please keep us posted if you come up with a solution.

i like the way that the bike rides, but like you, i think it needs a little rat treatment and a coaster hub/wheel.

How long do you need the neck to be? I got 2 springers, one has canti mounts and the other has a 1 inch threaded neck thats a hair too short for me to use. I could always mix and match things...

Bigcam59,

The head tube is 4-3/4", so I'm guessing that 6" would be on the money, and that anything a little longer could be taken care of with spacers. However, I just pulled the stem, and saw that it's 22.2, so (this is the newbie in me showing) I'm thinking that means that it's a 1-18" headset. Am I right?

22.2 means it's a standard 1" headset. I just measured mine and the steertube length from bottom bearing race to top threads is 6 1/2" long. Let me know if you can use it. I'll let it go for 20 beans and shipping.
