NSU german made step through, black and whitle with pin striped rims,26x1.75 tires, torpedo coaster hub, front tire plunger style brake, rear fender drilled for skirt guard....any ideas on how old this thing is, I'm guessing 50s but the hub is marked made in Germany not West Germany so it may be older.

Hey! I posted your pics up to the CABE...Let's see what comes up! Sweet bike. How's that front brake work? That fender ornament is awesome, too!

Okay...I got a couple of websites...Can you post the serial number? I'm not sure where it's at on the bike...Under the bottom bracket? The sites are German language...I can read a little German...So if you'll get me the serial # I'll try to get the mfg. date...Here are the links if you want to check them out yourself:

This is fun!

I sent you a PM with the serial number. How does the front brake work...not very well. You squeeze the lever and it activates some sort of reverse spring plunger type thing on the fender that pushes a rubber pad straight down onto the top of the tire. I found this interesting bit about NSU, they built a type 32 vw beetle prototype in 1933, bottom of link below

i saw a whole bunch of those front brakes when i was at WW2 weekend and they dont let anything in unless its pre 44,45 ..
i wouldnt think those front brakes work to well when its wet outside lol

Here is what my friend, Max had to say. He lives in Austria and is a vintage bike collector:
"(that)NSU: nice bike, good condition, i think its from the 40ties or 50ties - do you have a framenumber? the handlebar seems not to be original..."
Here is a link to his photo page on flicker:

Stay tuned!

Yea! He's got a cool photo archive! It's cool to see vintage bikes from "across the pond"! 'Ya know Ignaz Schwinn went to Europe around 1910...And was a big hit with his race team....How cool! 8) Stay tuned...I've got a few more contacts...'Tag!
