Number 9

Gidday all,

I posted in the RRBBO8 Discussion Thread recently that I am already thinking of names for Build Off 9.

I said I thought I would go with "Number 9" for these reasons...

• My Build Off 8 entry, Rattled, got 36 votes 3 + 6 = 9
• Rattled placed 9th in Anything Goes
• I found a brass "9" that you might find on a letter box at the local demolition yard
• The Beatles song "Revolution 9" repeats the words "Number 9" and I like it.
• It will be the 9th "Rat Rod" bike I have built...
1. The Rat
2. Sun King
3. BOB
4. SOB
5. Goose
6. Mantis
7. Chopster
8. Rattled

However, I can't wait until next year so NUMBER 9 has been started...

About a year ago, I purchased this "Bike in a box" from The Warehouse (New Zealand's Walmart equivalent)...

Didn't really like it so put on some Electra bars upside down but still wasn't happy...

So recently, I took it into photoshop and devised a cunning plan...

Stripped it and gathered some donor bits of metal...

Cut the frame and mocked up a new design...

Tack welded the main bits and mocked it up...

Had this old rowing machine handle lying around and decided to use it...

Cut and added the handle bit to the frame...

And that is where I am up to so far.

I am not sure about the colour scheme yet. Wheels and tyres will remain as is, so the colour needs to fit with them. Maroon maybe? Black? Dark blue?

That is really cool! I like the way that stands. Kind of like an old board-tracker, but with more attitude. Nice!

Thanks noodlenoggin and Luke. I have done a bit more...

Worked on the center stand...

Got it welded and mounted...

Added a new seat tube and cut off the top of the old one...

Capped off where the old seat tube top was...

Did a new mock up at this point and decided it would be black and will have truss rods...

Truss rod parts...

Mocked up one of the truss rods...

Painted the frame, fork and center stand and mocked it up...

So it is almost there and I am quite happy with it so far.

Well I actually haven't figured that out yet Probably some sort of clip similar to what I did on Rattled, but not welded on this time :roll: Will let you know as soon as I come up with something :?

Gidday All,

I realised I hadn't put up a "Finished" photo of Number 9. Here it is...

It is finished for now but the cranks are too long so need shorter ones. Also the center stand did not work in the end so will to re-think that.

Thanks Luke. It rides real nice except for the pedals hitting the ground. I'll need to get some really short cranks. It's only a single speed, so with the hills around here, I don't expect I'll be riding it much so I will most likely try to sell it as soon as it's ready.

Looks cool, I sure wouldn't go into any turns with the peddle all the way on the down stroke, looks like she'd buck ya right off!!! Yeee Hawww!!
