Pictures of my Schwinn Typhoon just added.

I followed up with an ad on craigslist today that read "Schwinn Cruiser, $60....." It had no pics and really bad grammar but I figured it was worth a shot. It said it was a Typhoon which is a coaster brake model which made it even better. I called the guy and asked him about it so he told me the condition. It was in pieces, no tires, but had the frame and fork(still installed) in original condition, original wheels(pretty rusty in some parts) and chainguard, both fenders and bars, again both kinda rusty, but there. For 60 bucks I thought this was a great deal so I decided to go meet him. He lived out in Midlothian area, so I got a zipcar (I love those things) for three hours and drove out there. I met with him and he was a total bike enthusiast and was showing me some other things he had and then he showed me what I had come to look at. It was great, all original condition (not perfect by any means, but I am not looking for that), everything was straight and I liked it alot. He asked me if I would be interested in seeing something else he had maybe to take home. I was thinking at this point, well I only have about 18 bucks left over from what I brought with me, I dont know if I can afford anything else if this was 60. He showed me this same looking frame built by AMF Roadmaster, complete, and he said he'd give it to me for 20 dollars! I told him I only had 18 and he said its yours if you want to take it. I couldn't believe it, here I was ona whim way out in the burbs to buy what I was hoping to be something decent, and I was about to drive home with almost 2 bikes! And all of this for 78 dollars?! I told him I would take it, I am not someone to shy away from a complete bike for 18 dollars. I loaded them in the car and talked alittle bit more with this guy. After some bike talk I went on my way home and got them home. Here are some pictures I took with my camera phone (I think I am the only one without a proper digital camera)...they are kinda crappy and kinda small, but they atleast show you what they are. They'll need a little work to get them going to really not all that much. Working bikes is going to be my new best friend for parts. So it was a great day to say the least!

Good Score.... You are living in the center of the Bike mecca. You just need to poke out in the hinterlands. The CL ad without pics are always worth checking out. I followed up on a " Phantom parts" ad and ended up with a nearly complete and restored ladies bike with horn tank, springer and fenderlight.

Bike Mecca is right. I did fortunately venture out into hinterland ,aka the burbs, but I cant do it much because I dont have a car...I borrowed one tonight luckily. But I cant even imagine how many cool bikes are hiding in garages like this guy.

Looked up the serial number for the Typhoon on the web....she was born on 2/14/1965. Thats an awesome Valentines day present!

Anyone know how to date an AMF?? It's a Voyager model. :?:

The guy told me he had put this seat on it after the fact so I dont know if it is original.

I was reading your build off posts last night and was excited to see another AMF on here. I cant wait to see how yours turns out!!!

So here are some updated pictures of my first completed project from this duet of beauties I picked up. I did a complete tear down of this bike, degreased and cleaned up everything then greased, lubed and put her back together. I took most of the rust off (some little spots are staying forever) and polished the paint and had alot of fun!

Thanks for looking! Anyone have any suggestions to keep whitewalls clean? Just putting these ones on they got a little dirty. :?

The bike looks great!....love the handlebars...very sweet bike.

I have found that taking a dry clean cotton cloth and rubbing VERY hard on white walls really cleans them off well. It takes some effort, but they look like new again.

Great job on your AMF, I like the low slung look that you gave yours. I think there are at least four of these Roadmasters here now and all of us have gone in diffrent directions. Mine was garbage picked, I threw a rattle job on it and an engine and it ended up being a surprisingly good rider...Kelly

Thanks for the compliments! It's so cool to see other versions of these frames. I've NEVER heard of them until I came across mine. Your bike is very cool looking too, especially with the engine! Great stuff. Just like you said, it turned out to be a really good rider, mine is the same way. After we re greased and lubed everything up, put her back together...she rides like a million bucks! My favorite part is the crazy dishplate like rear drop outs, so unique!
