So I have a friend at work who lives on a farmette and was looking for a yard-art or garden bike. And I have another friend who collects loads of old bike stuff and is always looking to unload something to clear out space in the shop. I mentioned the search for yard art to him and he wheeled this out and said, essentially, "just be sure you don't bring it back." Just for giggles, does anyone recognize a maker on this one from the dropouts, or fork, or anything else that might look familiar? There's no serial number that I can see. The sprocket looks like the one on my @'41 Huffman-built Firestone Pilot (with a goofy homebrew chain guard attached), but I don't know if it or any other parts are original to the bike.

Definitely Huffman by those dropouts. Someone put a ten speed pie plate over the chain wheel, also looks Huffman. The serial number should ID the year, 5H would be 1955 or 1965, in this case , early 50's is my guess or even earlier.

Yeah, we had a good laugh about that chain guard. I think I am going to keep the cranks/sprocket and put some junk out of a Walmart kids bike in there for her. That will sit out in the yard and rust just as well as the old Huffman pieces.

I am also looking at hanging a basket off the handlebars for her to put flowers or something in.

ok so I stripped everything off it that could be of any value to me on an old cruiser and replaced it with junky stuff off Wal-Mart bikes.

the cranks/bottom bracket were interesting. never seen one designed quite like this. the bearing cages are way more open than others I've seen and the non-drive-side cone has this interesting cover plate that notches into it. and check out the homebrew chain guard:

i think the bike is kind of cool looking.

I think that the bike is almost too nice to be a prop display piece on a farmhouse yard.
Aren’t those often seen in more rust tones?
(If only it was not a girl’s frame).
