Truly, I think there are Lurkers who come to these bike forums to get new ideas! Obviously in this case the forum is the trend setter and now the bike companies act like they are coming up with something new.

Nope, this was just a coincidence:

Re: Rat-Rod Bikes goes mainstream? Eating my words...

I really like the cup holder frames, my mom has one of the girls versions (bike shop version), I'm waiting for the factory direct store to get one in with a scratch on it  I mainly like the side profile of those frames, they big faded looking gel decal on the cupholders is kind of wimpy looking in my opinion though.

Well I checked on the internet last night and the priced had dropped to $119.30! Nipped in to the store this morning, got them to apply the discount to mine and picked it up! If you live in Australia and want one, get down to your local store, if there are none on the shelf ask at the lay-buy counter if there are any out the back (that is how I got mine) or if they can order one for you, if you order online they will charge you a $70 delivery fee, still a cheap bike at $189.30, but not as good as $119.30!

The box claims it is a lightweight alloy frame, it is not, steel as I expected!

Fully assembled, made in china stickers, reflectors and bell removed:

Surprisingly good to ride, the Schwinn they copied it off was well thought out so it works well, just cheap parts and cheaply built. Does not bother me, it will be getting changed up soon!

The flat black has grown on me so it will probably stay, homemade bent springer will go on, street sweeper rear fender, better pedals and grips, ape hangers and possibly a banana seat and sissy bar, all in black, front brake will go away too. Going to remake the cup holder in steel and weld it permanently to the frame too most likely. I will put up a build thread when it happens.

I like the schwinn version in raw with a clear coat. I think its the new corvette deluxe.

Just saw one of those at the factory direct store, already rusting through the clear at the welds on the cup holder area. Ive seen cheap bikes rust before but the rate of this one was a little scary. :?

Looked like this (craigslist bike) but had never been out of a store ...

A rat rod cannot be mass produced. Or at least my definition of rat rod doesn't allow for copies, production made completes, or cheesy flame decals. Seems to me we need to name the wally rats, donk is already being used.....
How about c.s.r.r.??? Chain store rat rod,???
Kinda not believing I am having this discussion, wallmart rat rod! Ha! It's all over kids, the end is nigh.....

Totally agree with you, they do seem to be a decent base to build off though.

I kind of like those frames. its a nice alternative to having a goofy cup or bottle holder on an otherwise cool bike. I found a his and hers barely used I almost bought for my wife and I. I didn't get to ride the guys bike, but the girls bike felt right and it rode nice. they were both bike shop models, though not the big box store ones. the guys was a corvette, the girls was a debutane? something like that.
