I like the very 'classic' look of A. If you can call a stretched and lowered mixed tubing frame 'classic' ! :21:
I love classic hot rod black and red but that purple looks good!
The frame is looking great! I really like the style you have come up with. All of the colors look good on the rims. I might have a slight preference for the green.

Frame is looking awesome.
I like the traditional rat vibe of flat black, red rims, and whitewalls.
I also like your idea of traditional darts on the front, but I would keep those to the headtube, toptube, and downtube. Use the tank area for something cool instead of trying to blend a dart in there.
When I saw the cheese grater, the first thing that came to mind was what a cool louver pattern that is! If you have two of those, you could angle them and slice them up to make a wicked tank insert.
Now I need to add giant cheese graters to my list of things to look for at yard sales and thrift stores. :D

I like your idea there. I have an old army canteen that I could cut in half and make some sort of tank out of. I'll try to find that thing and post a few pictures soon.

I now used the cheese grater for my ratrod bike trailer and pulling cart build:

I am thinking about lasercutting a few plates here. Haven't found the right junk and I have some more ideas I would like to tryout...

And I found some parts in the stash:

I could use these with an eyelet instead of a hook to tension the chain.

So what have I spend thus far on the build?
FRAME:
3,- For junk piping.
15,- For welding, using gas and wire.
7,- For the bottom bracket tube.
PARTS:
60,- For the tires and tubes.
3,50,- For the rear wheels at a thrift shop :21:
10,- For the front wheel at a market place.
10,- Materials, spray cans.
TOTAL: (so far)
108,50 bucks :eek:

I degreased the rims, masked the spokes and nipples, sanded them and will now degrease again.

Plus: Today I found a piece of junk aluminum. I am making new dropouts.

How will your axle riser be mounted to the frame? A couple of bolts, one through the original axle dropout and the other through the rack mount hole? Welded?

Good question! I aim to use the same square slotted bolts like @kingfish254 utilized for his dropouts. Or I will mill a custom nut from waste material.
I thought about it, but not in detail yet 😉



So I checked the frame clearance for the chain... sure the chain hits the frame :crazy: So I gathered leftover tubes and more from the junk bins!

I did a lot of measuring, aligning and checking before cutting the frame again.

After cutting and notching (filing), these small parts can really get stuck in your skin and hurt for days!


Coming tuesday probably the final welding session before the preparations for paint!

I love the wrench result to clear the chain. Feels........ Ratrod.

To be honest: Seeing the 'finished build section' on the forum made me look at the ending date again. I'm happy its in September 2024 ;)

Everything is ready for welding tomorrow.

Cleaned the welding spots and found eyelets for a chain tensioner.
The eyelets are a leftover piece when I customized 'widened steel rims' in the days I customized cars. These parts just lay there for about 12 years or so.

The threaded rod is for alignment, keeping them straight when welding.
