I am working on a 1977 Peugeot road bike that someone gave me. It had a rounded off allen bolt in the gooseneck. I welded an allen driver onto the bolt. After applying pretty good force it came loose with a pop. The original allen bolt was recessed so welding eroded some alloy. The replacement allen bolt is shallower so it goes into the gooseneck hole deeper than the original French one. This is good as I am going to file down the eroded area to smooth it out and the new bolt will still be recessed. I will cut off the allen driver at the weld so my tool is not ruined.
