Saving grips ?

Has anyone dealt with trying to save sun faded grips, I have a friend who talked about heating up plastic fenders to a point of not warping to bring color back but I haven't been that brave yet .

Rusty rat should have faded grips. I am trying to save some grips for that purpose.
