Pic from internet, not my bike, mine is much crappier.

I was given an exact match to this bike, no wheels, bottom bracket shot, broken derailleur hanger. Why not, I can pull some parts.
Bottom bracket just needed 1 bearing which I have. Derailleur hangers are only a few bucks.

Considering building this. Gimme your thoughts, dont hold back, this would be a near zero $ build, cause Im bored, no ego here.

Straight fork from 80's mtn bike, would need to do 1-1/8 to 1" conversion. Kinda weird, but ordering forks isnt in the plan.

60's scwhinn cruiser bars, and stem. Maybe some apes.

Single speed with 1/8 chain and freewheel, half link if needed to get it set up.

Single wall peaked rim wheels that come on about every dept store bike, the spare set I have at least had alum hubs.

Cant figure out if its painted or powdercoated, easy off oven cleaner didnt touch it. Dont want to polish it, but stripped and scotchbtited for a brushed finish - maybe.

Banana or regular seat?

Ive got a derailleur and click shift, if needed.

You can't go wrong with near-zero dollar ...even if you don't like it when its done, you may find someone who will. I think your biggest issue will be the forks, however. With a 26" cruiser fork on it, the bottom bracket is going to be pretty low...you will probably need a suspension corrected, or 29", fork to make it sit right...or space it under the headtube if you have enough steerer length.

Agree, on bottom bracket height.
Im thinking a road bike fork or homemade springer would get the height closer.
No rush on this - as time allows and low buck parts materialize.

Messed with this a bit today. Whatever the coating is, is tough, oven cleaner and zip strip arent touching it. Plans for a brushed alum frame are fading.
If I just sand whats there it should take paint just fine. Now to decide on a color. I dont like rattle can, always lets me down.

Stuff on hand. Auto paint. Black gloss, black satin, clear, 7 colors of pearl and flake.
Rustoleum/ tractor enamel. Blue, black, grey, red.

This may be a good opportunity to do a tech write up on a rustoleum paint job with a harbor freight gun to get some folks more familiar with it. Acetone and valspar hardener it turns into a very tough, chip resistant paint job.
