Schwinn chrome cap on fork remove

Happy New Year everyone I am restoring a Schwinn Starlet for my wife and I would like to take the chrome cap off the fork assy. The problem is I can't figure out how to remove it, or if I can. Thanks

I think you have to loosen the bottom inner bearing race and then it will come right off. Use some penetrating oil and then you can gently knock the bottom race loose with a hammer and screwdriver.

Yep, you need to remove the fork, pry the bottom bearing race off and it slides right off.
