I think I've had this bike for a little over a year now.. maybe two? I don't know. My original plans were to restore this bike to match my Dad's 55 Chevy when he restores it but that doesn't seem like it's going to happen anytime soon. So I asked him since it was taking so long for him to get started on his car if it was okay for me to go ahead and build this bike up as a "Rat" for the time being until we get around to restoring it. It was okay with him as long as I don't do any drastic changes to the bike or switch all of the parts around.
The bike had actually sold on ebay about a week after I got it before I had plans to keep it so I hurried to take the bike apart for shipping. Which was a bad idea because I had no idea how to take a bike apart so I didn't put the parts in seperate, labeled, zip lock bags like I do now so all I have now is a bin full of random parts... great. Most of the bolts and nuts will need to be replaced, a few snapped off back when I was taking the bike apart but I don't think it'll be a big deal. I need to get a new stem, and a new sprocket because we somehow managed the bend the heck out of it when we were trying to remove the crank.. plus there's a piece of a stuck pedal in the crank and I have no idea how to get that out.
My plans for the bike are to just clean up the paint as much as I can without repainting or anything. I've ordered the parts that It needed. Member B607 sold me a rack for the bike so I'll get it mounted on there. I need to find a new set of chrome wheels to put on there, something with a modern hub that won't wear out.. I'm keeping the seat on there because I like the way it looks. Hoping to get it finished before spring break but who knows!!
