I've run a nexus4 on a heavy Schwinn Cruiser Four. Tried several crank sprockets and currently run a 49t!

1st gear 49tooth/22tooth= 2.23 wheel revs per crank rev x 26"= 58 gear inches
2nd gear = 72 gear inches
3rd gear = 87 gear inches
4th gear = 107 gear inches

Man you must have some strong legs to pull that gearing on a heavy cruiser. With the hills we have around town that gearing would be unusable.

I run 36/16 with the nexus 7 which gives you a great spread of gears that you can use for riding around town or trails. I could go higher on the front sprocket but I don’t have one as cool as the one I’m currently running.

Another factor to consider is the durability of igh’s if you are going to subject them to hard trail use. I haven’t put enough miles on mine to know, so it may be worth asking others who have or check on the web.

From what I researched, if you are going to off road them, you should use the Alfine versions. I have four Nexus 7spds, and haven't been particularly delicate or radical with any of them...I just treat them like any other all terrain cruisers and haven't had any issues yet.

Yes it is pretty tall geared. It came stock with a 46t/22t which I thought was too tall.
So I swapped out a 32t - but a little too low - I'm no spinner.
now I'm running 49t 'cause I thought the sprocket looks cooler... :cool2:
Go figure.

Well I've sure been busy with an old motorized Felt "Red Baron" cruiser I built awhile back and found floating around on OfferUp for $130!!! Originally I sold it for $600 replaced the bucking bar and cleaned up the carb and repainted it and it was good as new!! Anyways I finally finished sanding down and stripping all the paint off the Schwinn Heavy Duti Frame and decided on a Rust-Oleum Metallic Flat Soft Iron color I've done a couple bikes with this same paint and always have had amazing results gonna be painting sand slowly assembling the Schwinn today I'll post more pics as the project progresses .I posted pics of the paint the Schwinn all sanded down and the Felt .. if anyone's interested in the Felt and lives in the Southern California Area hmu it's for sale.
