“Industry is inherently messy.”
I don’t know who first said that but it’s always been true for me.

I had to clean up a lot of stuff in the boat yard, so I would have room to do stuff like this.

Here's a look into the abyss. Obviously a multi-use facility here...storage space, workshop, gym, art gallery, therapist's office...

Most of the magic happens right here. That little bench top lathe has pulled me out of a bind more times than I can remember. It's also where I machined the front derailleur for my old Raleigh.

Added the cabinet on the left to consolidate several specialty boxes. Added wheels and a polyurethane top to a file cabinet to make a machine stand.

I made a vise station. Got the steel stool on Market Place. Used a 2x12x12 with counter sunk holes for the top. Already had the three vises. The smallest vise is for luthier work that I do. Out under some trees I have a large vise from a decommissioned Navy ship mounted on a piece of telephone pole.

Looks great! I may do something like that.

Got a pic of the Navy vise?
Here is the vise my late uncle retrieved from the ship.

I read up on it Powr Kraft was made by Milwaukee for Montgomery Wards. This one is huge. That it probably a 12" diameter pole.

I'd reburbish it, paint it haze gray and mount it to it's own table. I would also add the name of the ship it came from, if known. Otherwise just a famous ship name.

From the opposite end of the spectrum from to that navy vice...
I've been helping my mother in law clean out the old place so she can sell it. I was so excited to find this little guy in my father in law's old shop

Cute little aluminum vice, made in japan, love the patina on the anodization. It'll allow me to set up a workshop anywhere, and it'll feel like Papa D is there working with me

Looks almost like the one I have that's better than nothing but not big enough for anything 😄
