Ski flying used to be much more dangerous. The agony of defeat dude wasn’t the only jumper that day to qualify to the hospital. They ended out calling off the tournament as too many jumpers were getting hurt as the visibility was low. The tracks now are laser straight and the landings are much smoothers. The agony of defeat dude was running in really bad tracks, his skis came together when the tracks narrowed and the cables tangled and became locked. When the tracks separated his skis couldn’t follow the tracks. That's just amazing. How far they're able to make it these days.
Of course my only point of reference is the "Agony of Defeat"
high jump skier from the ABC Wide World of Sports intro. And
me, fracturing both thumbs on a Killington Black Diamond.
