Had a little time this weekend to work on the shifter. Came up with a idea but think I will change it up a little.

think I will use a straight piece of handle bar with a spacer under it so it isn't sticking out as far. then I started working on a shift handle and came up this. drilled a hole for it to slide onto the shifter then trased out where I needed to notch to get it all the way on.

Then decided to shape the handle to kind of match the tanks and routed the edges with a 45 router bit trying to look like machined.

I will probably cut it down and see if I can make like a t-handle or something like a round topper.

Changed up the shifter made a new mount and changed the handle up.used a straight piece of handle bar instead of the curved piece so I could get it closer to the frame. Then I was thinking how I could change the shift handle and I was looking around and spotted this t-handle Allen wrench. So I came up with this still need to do some finish work on it. I cut the handle down and drilled a hole in handle and cut the t- handle down then started shaping it to match up with the t-handle.

That T shifter is cool! I'm thinking of a shroud / console now to hide the Grip Shift body and the drive side of the shifter....maybe a can?
I used the bottom of a beverage can to replace the missing drive side of my RaTsberry build a few years ago.

Yeah I have been thinking about that myself. I want to cut off the excess sticking out but that's what holds the handle on. On my other bike I cut it off and ran a bolt with a nut to hold it together.

I have a couple of these that I think I can make work for the ends just need to cut it down.

Shifters are fun, I like seeing what people come up with.

I used a piece of threaded rod thru the shifter, nutted inside and out. Threaded into a golf club shaft, with an old machine knob I found in a box of random. The cover is part of a ceiling fan with 2 set screws. All parts were junk laying around. Golf club shafts are great to have around, they taper so you can find a section that works.

The tank is nice as is. BUT you could probably hide the whole shifter mechanism inside it with some reconstruction.

I'm not sure how attached you are to the upper tank section, but in my opinion it looks better with just the lower section. These frames are so unique with the double sets of sweeping double tubes and the addition of the top tank kinda hides all of that vibe. I love the bottom tank because it enhances the frame. And while the top tank looks good, it just seems to hide more than it enhances. This is just my opinion though. Build on with what is in your mind's eye.

Maybe I could narrow the tanks by taking out the 1/2 plywood between the outer side parts and bring them closer to the bars to where it don't hid them

Been busy lately and not much build time but have managed some progress. Finished up the shifter and got the shifter cable hooked up to the hub.

I had some Continental 2.2 tires on my Ross that was a little too wide for the fenders so I swapped them out with some 2.125 and using the 2.2 on my build.

I think this will be the setup I will be sticking with so next will be tearing it down and get ready for paint and hope for some dryer weather it's been raining here almost every day. Usually right about the time I get home from work.

Got the bike down to a bar frame and started sanding it found some light blue paint in a few areas. Pretty sure not a original color but the red under that.

Then I started working on some of the chrome like the sprocket turned out a lot better than I thought it would. First pic is a before and after with WD-40 and steel wool.

Then a pic after using a buffing wheel in my drill with buffing compound.

Need to finish up sanding and pick up some primer before it starts to rust where it went down to bare metal sanding. Now I just need to figure out colors for paint

Yesterday I was able to get the frame and most of the parts finished sanding and primed before the rain started. now my shop has parts hanging every where drying.

Since there was some rust under the burgundy or some kind of red on top of the original paint I decided to use this rust reformer primer.

Didn't plan on painting the springer front but I changed my mind on colors that I will be using so need to take it apart to paint. Maybe should have just ordered a chrome one lol.

I've used that Rust Reformer primer before. Works pretty well. It doesn't 'fill' like some auto filler primers do though, so uneven spots can show through the paint sometimes. Yours is looking good so far!

I may have mentioned this in another BO, but I really like this Mountain Dew sign in your shop! Is it vintage or a re-pop of a vintage sign? Makes me smile.

I can relate to hanging stuff everywhere for the paint to dry.
My shop is very small with limited space. One yard sale item that I have used for so long is this pivoting towel rod.

Yeah I am using the rust reformer as a first coat and I also got some automotive sand able filler primer for next coat. The sign I am not sure about it was in a canned ham camper that my aunt and uncle gave me.

I don’t think that Rust Reformer isn’t designed to be a primer. Due to the humidity and salt in the air here, I’ve started putting a light coat on everything I paint. It essentially neutralizes the rust on the surface, then, as you’re doing, lay on a coat or two of proper automotive fill primer, sand that smooth, then color coat and clear (as desired)

So between last Saturday when I was able to get some paint on the frame and most of the parts and yesterday when I got the second color on the frame and most of the rest of the parts painted. I only got a couple more parts to finish like the shift handle and the piece I made to mount it on.

Finally got my daughter to get around to using her cricket to cut my paint mask for the tanks and chain guard so hopefully can get those finished this week if weather permits. If not hopefully start putting everything together.
