A fellow told me he had a tandem, I told him I'd come look at it, I may end up buying it.

I stopped by to see it today but he wasn't home, I did see the bike though.

26" front wheel is gone. Possibly a fork off of a different bike. One of the chainrings is missing and the rear wheel is gone. Front cruiser style handlebar, rear shorter cruiser bar.

Now, the frame, I haven't seen a tandem like this. Both top tubes are double (think left and right smaller diameter like a canti) and they both slope downward like a girl's frame the front and back. Anyone seen a tandem frame like this (if you can imagine it from my description)?

I think I found a winner, looked through pages of google image results for "tandem bike frame" but then tried "mixte tandem bike frame" and came up with this:

I paid $20 for mine. If it has the chainguard on it, it alone is worth more than that. Good buy at $20. 8) 8)

Not for a stretch, I like the novelty of 2 riders, though it would be fun to ride it alone around town with a really sad face. Maybe a tandem tall bike... I was actually thinking about making it a triple, then adding one of those tag alongs on the back, then add a baby trailer to that, then put on my front and rear baby seats. I could stop traffic.

I went and got the tandem tonight. Picture may come later, maybe not. I gave the guy $20 for it. Needs rear wheel and he says one of the chainrings is bent. He got it as just a frame and put it together. It has an old Diamondback MTB fork and nice Alex alloy front wheel with a rear MTB tire. Eh. Front chainring looks like the one on my Schwinn BFK bike. The tensioner in between the 2 chainrings is actually a MTB rear derailer, I guess it worked. Anyway, all very solid. I have an old set of tandem wheels (coaster HUGE gauge spokes) that I will put on it. Need to see a close up of a correct tensioner or a homemade one I can copy.

I'm not in love with the frame design, but happy with the price.

The derailler will work, as long as it is in line with the chain and keeps tension on the chain. I have an old style tensioner from another kind of tandem that works on mine, even though it's not the right one.
