a grinder and cutting disk would be my choice , but i guess you would have to seal it up with epoxy after that
 
Here's my daily driver. I have a lot of really radical customs but I wanted and needed a daily driver for
all weather conditions. I thought about all the things I didn't like about factory bikes & built this mtb
around them. I like the heavier components of mtb's, the suspension, and the ability to still go fast
off road on short cuts across town. But, I don't like getting soaked in the rain with no fenders & not
being able to haul stuff. So I fabricated my own front fender and the rear is a dual purpose fender/
hauling bed that still lets the rear suspension work good. The front fender is made to haul on too
& I have stood on it with all my weight with no bending or breakage, but it still lets the front fork
work. I built a high mounted light bar so when I have something strapped to the fender, it won't
block my lights. I am actually just as happy with this build as my custom choppers & rat rod. I use it
almost everyday sunshine or rain and it has made many successful trips to the grocery store.

Thanks, I thought the same thing when I began to build this bike. I thought about it looking like some post apocalyptic urban dirt bike. I'm fine with that. I came from a bmx and moto-X background and sometimes when I'm out riding, if I see a nice trail or a huge drop off somewhere, I still hit them up. But I can still pick up a twelve pack & gallon of milk at the store. :D
 
Rode really well with these tires, but not for wooded trails covered in autumn leaves! I gave the bike away, but the tires will be on the next build.

my daily commuter mid 80's CycleTech, riding on Michelin Country Dry2's, they're a little knobby in case I run into some gravel or mud but still smooth enough to ride nice on the pavement.

My old 95' CAD2. I ditched the dropbars, put on a modest set of mtb bars, changed the brake levers out, added a suspension seat post, and put some fat tires on that would fit the orig 700c rims (30mm) Now I have a bike that will handle curbs or smooth dirt trails. I love chasing the spandex wearin' trekboys around here. It makes me laugh when they can't shake that old hippie guy behind em'... still rolls like new.

Here's my daily driver. It's an `89 Trek 830 Antelope I picked up at a Goodwill for $15. New tires, tubes, saddle, pedals, bars, stem, stem adapter, cables, brake levers, brake pads, so on, and so on, and so on... Also, converted to 1 x 7 by removing front derailleur and hi/lo chain-wheels.

I just fished one of these out of my bosses yard for free. I think I might do something like this to it. Looks like a fun bike.
 
This thread has inspired me to build a cruiser bike out of an old GT I have. That will have to wait for now. I've got a 96 or 97 Trek Multi-trac 750 (700c) to show. I got it at goodwill for $50, all factory. I less than $200 on crankset, gear cluster, chain, tires, and racks. It worked just fine without all of those things, but I built it for touring. It turned out to be an awesome workhorse and commuter as well.

I suppose it was a hybrid from factory so it was already groomed partially for the street, but it sure quickened up when I put the smooth road tires on it. After seeing some of these, I've got some interesting ideas to make what would be considered, "anti-klunk"

The Mountain Bike frames I've "turned" all have one thing in common, Nothing!

One of my perrenials is a un-clunked Schwinn Accension 29. It is one mean machine. No brakes, lightweight, and Fast. I went with 26" rims rather than 29ers to end up with as BMX feeling of a MTB that I've ever ridden. It feels like my ole GT Interceptor that I loved to ride as a teen. No cables, no brakes, no nonsense, nothing but bike. I think everyone would do well to make one too!

The other 2 pictured in this post... the GT is my son's that I unclunked and the red one is a Fuji I unclunked and flipped. That one sold in about 30 minutes after posting on craigslist.
I plan on building a few this year to see if they sell as quick as the fuji did.

I guess this bike kinda fits in here. I've had this bike for years. A friend dragged it to me out of a dumpster. It has probably has had more builds on it then any other bike in my stable. Before this, it was a three speed with mustache bars and front rack. Before that, Fixed gear with the matching tealish bars it came with. Before that a 2x7 'townie' on 700c's. Ect. Here is as it sits now --

I think my old kona should be in here. Early 90s I think. Joe Murray fire mountain. Single speed when I got it, still is but I changed the crank setup to suit my local terrain. Slick schwalbe tyres and project two forks. This bike is great for going on a fun ride!
