I took Southern Flyer out to the Habitat for Humanity Dragon Boat Festival yesterday.
The event, which raises funds for Gadsden-Etowah Habitat for Humanity, involves crews from businesses and organizations racing in boats similar to traditional Chinese dragon boats. The boats are 46-feet-long, with 10 seats and 20 people with oars, a drummer and a steerer.
The drummers sit in the front and are encouraged to dress in costumes. So, being the drummer for our crew 'I HOPE WE DON''T SINK', I brought Southern Flyer and a helmet that I made after the build-off ended, and called myself 'The Biking Viking'.
Obviously the bike stayed on shore during our races, but with 33 teams, there was plenty of down time between races for riding and 'Southern Flyer & the Biking Viking' got a lot of attention.
Interestingly enough, our crew finished the day in 6th place, the same placement for Southern Flyer in RRBBO8.
THE BIKING VIKING!
About to leave the dock for the final...
Leaving the starting line. We were in lane 4 and won our final heat!
