This has to be the worst patch job Ive seen on a bike yet. I know S7 tires arent the easiest to find but all I can say is WOW

Don't laugh. People used to have to do that. They used to take an old tube and line the inside of the tire when they had holes worn through the tires. We called them "boots". Brings back a lot of memories!

My grandfather once told me a story about how his brother had a bicycle, they were poor and the bicycle was something his brother had somehow gotten and it seemed special to him. He told me how they filled the tires with sawdust because they were not worthy of holding air. He told his brother one day that he was going to ride it to school (Pa only went through the 6th grade, so he was young) and school was not close by. His brother warned him but allowed him. He told me that riding that bike on those tires filled with sawdust almost beat him to death and upon getting home from school that day he told his brother he would never ride that bike again, I think I remember in the story that his brother laughed at him.

My grandpa told me a lot of stories, but that's the only bicycle story I can remember him telling me.

a rad rod hall of fame now

I was talking old bikes with a customer last week, I was drooling over his wife's 1935 Hawthorne! He's 85, and told me a story of how, during the depression, he spent a few months collecting parts, and finally managed to assemble a working bike. Then, his brother borrowed it, and wrecked it! -Adam

The tube is actually a newer tube and no their patch didnt work. I couldnt even save it so now Im down a S7 tire and they stripped the threads on one side of the axle so I have to find a replacement for that to.

Ford Motor company actually had a part number for saw dust. It was used when transmissions started slipping for a fix.
perhaps you are thinking of when the backyard mechanic used sawdust to quiet a noisy differential

No. The trans fluid would cause the saw dust to swell and seal the early auto transmissions. I'll dig through the garage and find the green book and scan it
