I recommend "Traffic" and "Mon Oncle". Most of his movies work without any understanding of french, as Tati mostly used only sound, but no real words!

Some back story........I grew up in West Palm Bch (that's the mainland for us "regular" folks) from '62 to '82. I believe the year was around the '40s probably 1930s where several sunbathers were arrested for being topless. That's right, topless! The thing was they were men.......
I recently saw an article where women and men were charged in Tampa (1920s) for wearing their swim suits away from the beach.
