Vintage bikes in the Philippines

I finally had a chance to visit the vintage place in Marikina, near Manila. A bike patrol rode about 2 miles escorting us right to the place. Here are several pics:

It was pretty cool when the bike patrol guys took us all through traffic like VIP's. And that's not even all of the bikes there. They just moved there, I heard about them from member Joe Conde here. He is still inventorying everything so there weren't any frames up for sale yet. Most of those bikes are spoken for, and the 3 frames I pulled out of a pile were already pegged for restoring. He gets some offered to him that are too far gone for a good restoration, so I may have a chance to get those. I settled for a good look around and some parts for my MBBO and sidecar bike.

I'm curious to know if it's normal to find old american bikes there or It is just some crazy guys who own this.

It was a 4 hour drive to get there, I haven't found any old bikes anywhere near where I live, and it's a big city. I think that's about the only place for hundreds of miles.

And somehow all those bikes made it halfway around the world. I would guess mostly military family moves to the Philippines way back when.

Awesome photos Barry! I only saw this today, I'm glad you got to Mr. Lee's place. It's also good to know you were escorted by a bike patrol. Marikina sure is a city where they got their act together when it comes to being bike friendly with their lanes and that place!

I sure would like to go back and buy one of those, especially the X-53 in the last pic. He knows what they are worth, I haven't had 30-40k ($600-800) pesos to spare yet.

I just spent a half hour looking at those pics again!

Been awhile since I've been to Subic Bay...1973 then again 1975. U.S. Navy. Don't remember many bicycles...just a lot of motorized tricycles and jeepneys for transportation. Nice bike collection

Cool stash, and you can get to it! Re-patriation of those sweet tanked ballooners back to the states would not be good for the Wildcat.

I know you sir and Wildcat would enjoy this flickr page. No bikes but the sight of old Subic might bring back old memories. I wish I was there to experience it, just heard stories of how epic it was from old neighborhood hippies. Unfortunately I was just born in 1973 :-|

Great pics, thanks! I first visited on the Enterprise in 82, and was stationed at the weather office at Cubi Point 83-85, then visited again on the Ranger in 87. No wonder I retired here, it's a great place.

Yup there were quite a few where I grew up in Manila. They told me stories about Subic back in the day and how it rocked in the 70's-80's. I eventually got to play there myself sometime in the mid 90's with my own rock band fulfilling a lifelong dream of playing onstage on one of the bars along Magsaysay Boulevard, even though it was a watered-down version of that area
