What is a long tank

Ok, I know, stupid question but, is it simply length or is it a specific style? Do all tank bikes come with loNV and short tanks or are they specific to certain brands. Did a 50's Rollfast ever have one?

This is an Elgin with a long tank. My favorite kind... I always thought a long tank is one that extends past the seat post...
