I just picked up this bike. After scratching the red paint off of the badge (with my fingernail) I found this awesome fleet wing badge underneath. Is this a CWC fleet wing, or a fleet wing bicycle? The serial number is A49874 54, which is consistant with CWC serial numbers. The springer fork is awesome and the bike as a whole is in great shape (mostly because of the awful paint job). If anyone knows the make and year, I would love to know! Looking forward to this project!

its CWC made, fleetwing is a CWC badge and the shock master springer is tell tail sigh (if the bikes not messed with) that it is a Cleveland welding company bike

Nick.

Your bike is a Cleveland Welding product built after AMF purchased the company in 1951 but before the Cleveland factory was closed and production was moved to Littlerock Arkansas during 1956. For most of that time the serial numbers were stamped with a dated suffix giving the year of manufacture. In this case A49874 54Cw gives the frame build year as 1954 which was the last year of production for CWC frames with rear exit toe plates. The Flying Falcon model of 1953 introduced forward drop-out style toe plates and they were incorporated into the rest of the full size line during 1954.

As Nick noted, Fleet Wing was one of CWC and AMF/CWC’s longstanding sub-brandings built alongside the standard Roadmaster line.
