I have sold a few bikes on CL in the past but always have to price them close to free to sell them. Have sold some for as low as 5 bucks that were in rideable cond. I finally sold my old Sears banana seat muscle bike for 40.00 but had it advertised on CL for over a month at that price and only had one call.

All i see on CL is expensive TREKS etc. priced at several hundred dollars and some over 1k. Who in there right mind buys them? I cant get a call on a 10 dollar model in good shape.

Every one i encounter who buys a used bicycle thinks a bike is a bike worth 5 or 10 bucks at a yard sale. They could care less if it a Trek a Schwinn or a Chinese Walmart special....its still just a bicycle and they arent gonna pay much for it no matter how nice it is or who its made by and if you have a so called "collectible" forget it better off to haul it to the dump.

I laugh all the time when i see people on CL here trying to sell a rusty old single speed udult bike for 150.00 when i know they would be very lucky to get about 5 bucks....even at that price i have went weeks without getting any calls.

must be some other issue that you are not thinking about.

usually, if you have a fully functional bike in good shape, that looks like it has not been thru the ringer, and it's priced at about half of new price, it will sell.

be sure to tell people about all the good repairs and adjustments that you have done to make it ready for them to jump on and ride.

maybe I'm in a better area for selling bikes???

the last bike I sold, was a 12 speed road bike. I started at $85, and didn't have a bite. I upped the price to $125 and had a number of calls. I adjusted the price a bit when the buyer came calling. @ $125 I had the best price out there on CL for comparable road bikes. 'Ya never know. :D

Yeah, I'm in a starved market. The ones I sell are always classics from the 40s-70s (nice bikes, never junk) and every one has been completely overhauled with fresh grease in every bearing and usually new tubes and sometimes tires. They're ready to go and ride great which can't be said for many, higher priced, similar bikes on the local CL.

All the hours that go into them are usually lost in the price I have to set some of them at before any bites :| I'll continue to do it though! Oh well.

i buy those bikes..riding a road bike 60 to 100 miles in a day you need a bike that you will be comfortable on. i have my rat bikes but i also have my $3,000 carbon fiber road bike, my $2,500 carbon triathlon bike and my 2 vintage itailian steel road bikes.

Depends on the bike, I always laugh at all these used Huffy Cranbrooks and such posted for $200. They don't cost that much NEW!
