….. the stubby seat post was a bit of a letdown; I’m sure I have a number of other, longer Schwinn seat posts out in my storage garage

Next up is the rear coaster brake; I think I have some ‘play’ issues here.

I’ve seen some videos on YouTube and am trying to avoid a complete rebuild; is there a way I can just loosen this up, blast it with carb cleaner and lube, put it together ‘a little tighter’ and be good?

Rebuild is not that difficult you'll be thankful later.

Wow. You guys get real snow. The lowest temperature we’ve gotten here in ‘Bama is 9 degrees and that was for one day. If you ever wanted to incite a riot, pay the local meteorologists to say the word “snow”.

that looks like a lot of back pedal prior to engaging the brake shoes. I'd do a rebuild. It's a challenge if you've never done one, but fun. Like a good puzzle.

actually, as far as accumulation, we haven’t gotten anything to note…. We’re at about 1/3 the typical snowfall as of today.

we‘re supposed to get 8”-12” tomorrow night, but I’m guessing 3”-5” max, if the storm is anything like the previous ones this year. -I’ll get a good pic‘ if we get some!

I’m not so sure that is too much play. Keep in mind your front chain wheel has more teeth than the rear cog. So a quarter turn in the rear does not mean a quarter turn of the cranks.

However, I personally can’t resist rebuilding everything. That’s the fun for me.

I’m going to tear it apart and see what I come up with.

Did the rebuild reduce the amount of play?
Maybe a little, but not much….. it’s definitely super smooth now!

lol

I’m Guessing those 2 half shell things are the brake pads. I cleaned the grooves out, but i can definitely see some wear on them…. Maybe their wear (thinness) is causing what seems like extra back pedal?

I’m not going to try to find thicker shoes and will just deal with the back pedal however it comes out….

I have few of those Bendix find they all have the same thing

those hub assemblies came up awesome man!
Another shout out to @Indyjps who gave me the carb cleaner tip.

I hit everything With carb cleaner and wow… that dry crusted grease comes right off. -I used a toothbrush to help and maybe A Little WD-40 for lube, then after that scrub hit it with a strong degreaser, hot water and a nylon brush.

finish with another shot of wd40 and shop rag…. presto!!!!
