Without stability it's not worth a dime. Upon further inspection I still agree with my last assessment. This thing is sketchy. Time for a total rework of my geometry. I'm seriously thinking sidecar style with some triple trees I have stashed. Now it's a race for time. I've got to cut the vertical headtube off and weld in some attitude.

Well it looks like a bike I've built over and over but there still may be a surprise or two ahead...

A cinch strap is holding it together, time to fire up the welder. Taco Express 30 minutes or less!

Whew! I'm kinda diggin' it with no shifter and no brakes. Good thing this bank is only right across the street.

I cut out most of the layers of tubing and patched burn thru' and sectioned in two tubes from a donor. Every weld on this has been done on the little Harbor Freak wire feeder so it's ugly like spot welds next to spot welds but cutting the old section apart leaves me fearless it burned thru two and three layers of tubing. Can't really run a bead with it but I've never claimed to be a welder. Next will be a simple rack off to the side to hold the cooler, nothing too fancy, with one of the 20" mags on it. Cold only no grill due to the time constraints so yeah make em' & take em'
Taco Express. 30 minutes or less!

so I've been researching sidecars for a while. (anyone remember Doork?) and a few things come to mind.
Clearance for the pedaling
Toe in a bit to keep it tracking but also help with the drag
Frame bracket must pivot at the chain stay
Sidecar wheel should lead the rear wheel some to help with stability on turns away from the sidecar.
Tonight I start creating this thing.

So I did this last night...
It just needs a couple basic hinges and....
Do I make it removable?

Also went with a small 12" wheel to keep it lowdown and simple to build and the front bar isn't attached yet I'm sourcing old socket swivels for each end. I used a rod that fits nicely into a bit of square tubing to be able to slide in and out as the cart pivots up and down on it's hinges.

So I didn't really work on the bike tonight. I caught up on some episodes of this n' that, but I did make up a fun little light for it. Inexpensive plastic LED light transplanted into my favorite kind of diced tomatoes can. Complete with the button switch!

With a world famous queso dip recipe on the side too! ( 2 cans of tomatoes+ 1 block of Velveeta)

I love queso dip

WoW, love the side car carl! Im saddened with the demise of the trike, I rekon It would of worked if you had the front solid and the steering went off the forks or just the wheels, instead of the whole front assembly.
To me it looked like as you turn , even slowley , your bringing the entire front end into line with the rear, allowing the centerline balancing, which is why she wanted to tip,
BUT...carl...But.... Im very impressed with your direction here, youve told us about and showed us about, then we see the errors etc, and WHAMMO heres a cool looking side car thats even got my internal cog's turning!... the tenacity to continue after a , What I call, a major set back, and only a day of 2 later we see a completely different machine!
I really liked the trike you were making ..... but this... this... side car..... yep I really like the idea, it just makes me wanna make one!

Merle...
Well that figment of my imagination hasn't reared his mug up for a while. He's pretty much just for telling jokes.
And yes that is a version of my color palette.

Small update on date night I still got a little bit done...old socket swivels for each end of the front bar. So it's removable, I think I'll cut an old extension in half and weld each half to the two connecting points on the two frames. Savvy?
