North American Handmade Bicycle Show 2012

I'm in Portland for a few weeks and I suppose because this place is such a rabid (and awesome) bicycle town they hosted a NAHBS preview at the Ace Hotel downtown last week. Place was jammed, in fact, there was a line down the block. The place was instantly at capacity so hopeful attendees had to...

The devil made me buy it... and pictures at last!

I think Walmart owes you a few shares of their stock, or at least a thank you letter.... They now show "out of stock" on that model :D

The devil made me buy it... and pictures at last!

I like the tire and rim colors. I like that they've tried to resurrect the truss rods. I'd ditch that rear reflector. The grips ARE good, I've got a set of those new ones. I wish somebody would start producing the full length, fat, balloon fenders again!!!

    Tailwinds to Portland!

Just wanted to drop a line to the Portlandians that I'm headed your way for the next few weeks and will be looking for bike related things to do. Good local food and drink is high on my list as well! I'll be staying right downtown at a bike hostel, interested in things I should see and do...

    Elgin Cl Score

Ya I don't think that's the same bike. The individual who sold it to Pavement contacted me late last week immediately after he had acquired it. He was not soliciting me for a sale, rather, to seek guidance on how to clean it up and establish a value on the bike so that he could resell it. I have...

    36"s... where will it end?

I don't think it's a fad at all. 29'ers are, and will continue to become more and more popular. 650c wheels/tires for road bikes are practically extinct (for good reason) and 700c is the de-facto standard now, but it could be argued that the 700c is even too small for bike frames larger than a...

    Cycle Truckin' Down Under

Not sure what it is but thought of you guys when I spotted the Cycle Truck-style yard art the other day in Akaroa, New Zealand. Al of the old bikes here are of European/English descent so it's often difficult to tell quite what they are. There is an EXTREMELY healthy bike culture here, in the...

    '51 Shelby

Picked this up from C-list the other day. In the photos it appeared the owner had dismantled many of the pieces but it looked complete and when I spotted those curved fender stays I decided to chase after the bike primarily because it was so cheap. BONIS! When I got there I discovered the bike...

    Yikes!!

This is yet another example of a bike that has SIGNIFICANT value because of its history. There are a mere handful of bikes that represent the genesis of the entire mountain bike movement/culture/market segment and this is one of them. For folks that are interested in the history of, and...

    Lipstick on a pig...........

^ YES! Exactly what came to my mind. High flange is awesome, drillium is awesome. Mix those w/ a coaster brake and matching front hub, SOLD.

    Lipstick on a pig...........

Your comments echo my thoughts too. It appears more like a hub that was built with the lowest common denominator in mind. Some unfinished aluminum and silk screening, meh. Hey I'm all for trying something new, being unique, etc. But given the choice I think I'll rock an old Elgin air-cooled...
