    Artificial Patina???

YIKES! That Excelsior looks much too purposefully patina'd. I've had success with walnut colored wood stain. Gives everything that deep even dirty look without looking fake.

    1942 Schwinn. LOL

The world according to Craigslist: All bicycles made prior to 1980 were produced in the 1940's. See, now you know. But seriously, do you EVER see any bikes listed as 1960's-1970's???? Double-You Tee Eff

    Schwinn "sweetheart sprocket" question.

Accck, can't find the info on the interwebs right now but you're correct B607, there were a few mfgs. using the "sweetheart" design. Although they look quite similar, one of the tell tales is those teardrop cutouts near the center of the chainring between the hearts. The Schwinns use a narrow...

my official nbhaa bicycle report simmons hadware

Simmons had large established markets in Wichita, Toledo, Minneapolis, and several other major cities, but was founded and based in St. Louis, MO. St. Louis seems a somewhat unlikely headquarters for a corp. from a modern point of view, but realize, STL was one of the 10 largest cities in the...

    Bicycle Heaven , Pittsburgh

Yaaaa, nail on the head there   Lots of us need lots of those parts, but some of those prices are just asinine. But hey, a man's free to ask whatever prices he wants, especially on the Ebay. I will offer a slice of purely constructive criticism though. The way he's assembled...

A Little 10-Speed Love Before and After (Mercier)

Just completed the refresh on the Mercier I picked up last month. I do love the old balloon bikes but I still REALLY enjoy working on road bikes, especially nice lightweight European road bikes, they're another style of bike that will seemingly never go out of style. Before: Yuck...

    for sale/wanted thread maintenance

Ya, one of the nice things about the RatRod forum that differs from many, if not most other forums out there, we're able to make changes to the thread title. Adding a "SOLD" or "CLOSED" in the thread title would save a lot of wasted surfing time.

HELP With Touch Up Paint Ideas? (Color over Silver)

I'm finishing up the refresh on this Mercier... (Before photo) It has the same color-over-silver paint like Schwinn used for eons, it's a very pretty red, or candy red. Just looking to touch up several chips, etc. Any home-brew concoctions that have worked?
