    Axle Material

Just checked my material orders: we have been buying 303 for stainless steel axles.

    Axle Material

304 SS is a bit on the soft side and cannot be heat treated. It is easy to work with, and has good corrosion resistance. 416 would be a better choice.

    jackshaft crankcase

Jackshaft is more of a slang term for a countershaft. What he wants to do is to replace the crank with a spindle that supports two chainrings that will synchronize the engine to the rear wheel.

This wheel has my Pepper Pot hub with stainless steel center and my new stainless steel track cog, Ghisallo wood rim, Wheelsmith spokes, tied and soldered.

What truing stands are worth the money?

I am thinking about the P&K Lie truing stand: http://www.wheelfanatyk.bigcartel.com/p ... uing-stand $1950 But for $200 or less the Park Professional is a steal.

    Are modern patch kits crap?

You can still buy cans on Rubber Solvent Cement (self vulcanizing glue) at good auto parts stores. You can also buy boxes of patches or just cut up old tubes to make your own. Several coast of glue on both sides and left to tack up works great.

Heavy Duty Spoke Source and fitment?

This does not help for heavy gauge spokes but the best source for 14g high quality spokes is the Wheel Fanatyk website: http://www.wheelfanatyk.bigcartel.com/p ... gth-spokes

    bike part terminology???

Schwinn was not responsible for the "Knee Action" moniker, it came from an earlier friction shock for cars. Much of the design DNA for Schwinn's bikes in the 30's came from cars and motorcycles of the previous two decades.

    left sided driveline

Pino Moroni used to make his track bikes in a left handed configuration, totally cool. Some people have made fixies with double drive lines, also real cool. With enough locktite it would all work.

    skip tooth chain?

I have never seen an inch pitch chain narrower than 3/16 but I have seen pre-balloon tire era chains that were wider.

    skip tooth chain?

I have posted this a number of times: If you read through this you can see that a 1/2 (.500) pitch chain will not work on an inch pitch cog regardless of the width.

    Sealed bearing coaster brake prototype

Re: Sealed bearing coaster brake prototype That is a possibility just not my style. I would not go through the effort to still have a hub center with questionable looks. Certainly it would be easier and cheaper. My friend Amir in Israel does some incredible work riveting his own custom high...

    stripping chrome with cola?

Chrome is very tough (that is why it is used). The acidic liquids like vinegar and Coca Cola attack the softer "substrates" like copper, nickle, steel wherever it can reach it.

    Cool springer ideas?

Good luck with the chain tension on that rear suspension.

    Cool Crank Arms

Good to see that not many of you are falling for this nonsense. This is the same as the PMP crank from the early eighties. Total ........ and I am glad the money spent on the patent was not mine with prior product so well documented. Check this image of the PMP crank...

survey/ research wanted: how walmart disposes of bikes

This takes me back to my corporate background. I will put this in general terms for what happens with warranty items between big vendors and re-sellers. The returned item is charged back to the vendor, the re-seller takes no loss on this item. At that point the re-turned item is the property of...

    What's your favorite Tool?

I do 3D solid models (parts and assemblies) in Pro-Engineer followed by 2D detail drawings. The shop uses my exported 3D .iges models to program with Mastercam. The drawings are used for inspection.
