    Rusty Hornet No More!

Thanks guys! I had gone back and forth on where to go with this bIke. With as bad as the frame is pitted, I did not think it would have been worth it to try and make it smooth again. That would have been too much work and it really should have had the bars cut out and replaced. I did think about...

    Rusty Hornet No More!

I had never even thought about doing a redish color! But the more I think about it, the more I like the idea. A red oxide primer may be very close in color to the seat and doing a white outline would be cool. Maybe even instead of white doing a goldish brass looking color to match the brass once...

    Rusty Hornet No More!

Thank you, I have been trying to figure out what else would set it off. I was thinking since the badge is actually brass that I will sand the Schwinn and maybe also sand the brazed parts of the frame. I am working on making a metal filler for a tank look. It will also get some white accents to...

    Rusty Hornet No More!

After: JC Higgins Drop center rims Different fork off a '50's womens Goodrich bike, those truss rods are very difficult to put in when they are not chrome! Custom seat covered by me! This is extra seat material out my dads 1959 Beetle as seen in the first post! I...

    schwinn straight bar gallery

My '51 or '52 Hornet, this thing was prolly the rustiest bike ive ever seen so I think I did the best I could with what I had to work with. This is i believe a '55 but im not sure what it was cuz it came to me with the original paint which was a bright blue but the chainguard was repainted...

    1964 Murray Sebring???

Hello, Yesterday when I was riding around on my Le tour, I spotted a bunch of bikes in someones front yard. As I got closer I could see that the sign said free!! I got excited and when I got there, there was a couple walmart huffy bmx, a next mtb missing brakes and a black diamond frame that...

    Schwinn Hornet: Rusty

He seemed to think that this bike would have never come with a tank, but it is pretty obvious. So maybe it didnt have a tank on it when he got it but it definately had a tank on it. It did have a rack on it when he got it because he sold that awhile ago. He said he knows a guy that has thousands...

    Schwinn Hornet: Rusty

Hello, This is my first dive into the skip-tooth era bikes so it should be pretty interesting. I had been looking for a straight bar Schwinn frame for awhile and came across a new local bike shop that only sells used bikes. He had a couple of ballooners but nothing like what I was looking for. I...

    Sturmey Archer 3 speed

Well I finally figured it out... I just started to spin the wheel backwards for awhile and somehow, I have no idea how, it worked! I have it just about where I want it adjustment wise so i'm pretty happy! For those wondering it is the dreaded S3C hub... Thanks, Jon

    Sturmey Archer 3 speed

I have no clue what is going on. I decided to take my 1979 Schwinn Stingray apart because it needed a good cleaning. I got this bike as a gift about 6 years ago and have never been able to ride it because it did not shift right... Every bit of adjustment would not help so it just sat untill...

    Schwinn Le Tour

I started by stripping the frame of all the components: Then I got on with polishing the aluminum pieces! This is how shes sitting currently: I got the front end all cleaned up and re-greased, the bb re-greased, the frame cleaned up, all of the chrome has been shined, all I am waiting...

    Schwinn Le Tour

Hello everybody,' I have decided to start another build with my free Le Tour. When I got the bike all of the gear components were in really bad shape so I took everything off. I had planned to just run it like that, but I soon got bored with it so last week I decided to tear her down completely...

What do you make of this?

Thanks for the replies guys. I was checking into new rims and will probibly just go that route.

What do you make of this?

I was told the bike had been stored in a barn or a shed, but all of the crome is pretty well pitted so it has me thinking otherwise. Yes it has aluminum cranks as well. The whole bike is pretty light once all of the unnecessary stuff is taken off. Do you think that the rim could be repaired...

What do you make of this?

I got this Le Tour for free and am in the process of converting it to single speed since the derailer is really krusty. Sorry for the pix, i took them from my phone... Then I notice this: Has anybody else ever had a rim do this before? Thanks, Jon
