I just dropped off a wheel w/ New Departure "D"hub today at local LBS. The mech and I were talking for awhile about old bikes and the last thing he says to me is "don't ever loose the axle nuts off of that wheel".He told me they were not standard or metric if he remembered right. He thought it...

So I started the breakdown and rebuild of the 46/47 CWC / Western Flyer that I picked up last week.I was trying to clean the seat and even though I was very gentle it ripped right in the middle.I will now be redoing a seat cover. I found myself looking through my wifes purses trying to find one...

    Need to identify (prewar?)Wetern Flyer

Thanks again. One last question. Is there any way to tell what kind of bike the black one is by any of its characteristics? The guy I got it from said probably a Hawthorn, maybe a monark. Here are a couple of pics of the black one.

    Need to identify (prewar?)Wetern Flyer

I picked this bike up yesterday. It is a Western Flyer, I was told it was a 40s model.First does anyone recognize the frame ? Murray perhaps? The serial # is on bottom of crank J60863. It is a skip tooth w/ a New Departure hub, model D. It has chain tensioner screws at dropouts.Other clues may...

1936 elgin MOVED TO THE GALLERY

Re: 1936 elgin build That maroon color is classic. I think I would have to go ahead and paint the wheels, maybe black.Just mask them and reshoot them. Just like that ,2-3 hrs tops, hopefully
