Little by little; had a change of heart on the seat and grips. (Also had a few business trips and a quick battle with the new Covid strain!)

Maybe! I ordered a complete BB set. I’m going to try that first and see if that works. I’d not, it’s the crank, I guess!

Awesome: thanks @Wildcat !!! I was scratching my head a bit….. the Murray didn’t actually have a washer on it! I think I’m just going to buy an entire assembly as you have pictured so I don’t have to worry about mix and match parts -I’ve had good luck in t(e past rebuilding bottom...

Thanks Wayne! I understand the Schwinn dilemma ! It definitely not a Schwinn. It’s a 1933 Rollfast motobike. I would guess the BB would be universal, but I’m not sure. -there could be something quirky with the Murray I’m scabbing parts from….

Here’s the mess! I’ve got an aftermarket chainring on here, which may be part of the problem. (?) Maybe I need a spacer between the chainring and the stationary cone? Definitely a tight/awkward fit between the chainring and BB cup. If I loosen the cone opposite the drive side, it spins free...

And….. I’ve got a problem! Anyone got any input? I thought it would be easy-peasy swapping parts off of my Murray cruiser and putting them on this guy. My issue is the bottom bracket assembly. Cups fit fine, bearing and crank SEEM to fit fine….. but when I put the assembly together, it...

Thanks OJ. I’m using the wheels n tires as shown earlier in the thread. the wheels are off of an 80s Murray cruiser / 3 speed. The tires are the ones you recommended off of eBay. I think cst rock hawk On paper it should work…. But, we’ll see!!!

And a big shout out to @Wayne ! Your knowledge and input on the seat post saved me some serious scrambling! I tested one of my old Schwinn seat posts, it fit like a glove, I went to eBay and bought a matching seat post and seat hardware and now I can use the seat I had originally planned...

The blue on the seat tube is tape so when I clamp it in to my rack it doesn’t damage the paint

Thanks @OddJob !!! -so, super difficult to go back and do rework. Even more difficult knowing I could slam the thing together and make the deadline and still have a pretty cool bike! It was tough, but no compromises on this guy. I definitely wanted a red, white and blue bike. The original...

Meh….. I log most of my miles on a 39 pound Trek 3900…. I just weighed this guy. It’s not that awful yet. -as is, it’s tipping the scales at just over 12 pounds. Definitely heavier than most of my other recreational bikes.

Fork truss on: may need to tweak a fuzz once the front wheel is on. Thing is HEAVY!!!!

Thanks!!! I’ve had good luck with vinegar and foil…. The headset cups actually have some peeling chrome. It’s all good…. A little patina can’t hurt!

The hardware is definitely showing it’s age versus the fresh paint….

Thanks! Appreciate the input! I’m super bummed my July schedule just didn’t work out to hit the deadline, but I didn’t want to rush this thing. I plan on using this and enjoying this bike for a long time so I’d rather take my time and get this guy 100% the way I want it with no compromises...
