Goosenecks/stems - are the sizes standard?

Hi, I'm getting so close to finishing my first bike. Just need a couple more bits. I have a pair of handlebars from a 69 Schwinn Typhoon and my frame is a postwar Western Flyer frame. Are basic chrome cruiser handlebar stems generally one standard size? If I got a Schwinn Krate stem from ebay...

    Oops! Oversprayed clear coat.

Hey all, I'm back from outer space after months of being away, and I have a question. I am SOOOO close to finishing my first ever project bike (yes, I started it 9 months ago). I just did it for fun...just to have a cool old cruiser to ride around, say I painted it myself, and, let's admit...

Can you put body filler over primer?

Hey guys... Popping in to ask a few questions even though I've been off the planet for months. The bike is coming along and I'm excited to get it done. But I've hit a little disappointment...When I put the body filler on the bare metal fenders and rear rack of the bike, and sanded it...

    Having trouble finding oxalic acid!

I can find it online, but would rather not order it, pay shipping, and wait. I'd like it in my little mitts by Saturday morning. Anyone know any chain hardware stores that carry it? DAP brand, powder form in particular? Not your mom-and-pop store 377 miles from me...but somewhere I can go in St...

    How much $ is reasonable...

...to expect to pay for a lace-up? Say I unlace, paint a pair of front and rear rims, and walk into my lbs with the hubs, spokes and rims in hand. I'm quite intimidated at the thought of lacing them back up myself, and I haven't the equipment or knowledge to tension/true them...ballpark, how...

    Rechroming handlebars

Hey all... Just a quick question: I'm wondering who has had handlebars rechromed, how much it cost, and where's a good place to do it. Did you have to send away or are these places fairly ubiquitous?

    Anyone tried Auto Air Colors?

I've seen great work done with this paint, albeit done with paint guns.... Anyone tried it? Can you get it in rattlecans from their dealers I wonder? Online it just shows squeezie bottles that you need to mix and put in a paint gun.

Suppose I wanted a more authentic sprocket...

Sick of this same bike photo yet? ;) Suppose I wanted a sprocket/chain that would be more appropriate to the 1946/1947 manufacture of this bike. What would that entail? Would I have to buy a whole different set of wheels and a new crank and everything? I'm so new at this and still learning...

A tank to fit this bike?

I just bought this bike from someone here on ratrodbikes, and it's on the way! I'm not sure I want to put a tank on it, but if I decide to, does it need to be a specific Western Flyer/Huffman-made tank, or will other brands fit? What do I look for? I'm not highly skilled (read: I am incapable)...

Is this truly a WWII-era bike?

I am eyeing this bike on Craigslist. Its seller says it is a war era Western Flyer. I think I want it. :) I know there are some brilliant bike experts here who can tell, blindfolded, if this bike is what he says it is! Not the best pictures, I'm sorry.

New from south St. Louis City

Yello, I just joined today. I'm looking to learn some tips and advice on restoring a rusty old bike....and also looking for the bike. :) I'm a 28-year-old girl with an intense interest in the WWII era and an even more intense interest on getting my hands on a rusty old cruiser from said era...
