    JC Higgins tanker

Can someone help me with the value of this JC Higgins tanker? I'm not very familiar with JCH, but this appears to be a post war (1947-48) standard tanker, not a premium bike but a very clean and well preserved example of a late 40's rider. I know price will vary geographically, but any help...

Help ID this single bar cantilever

I found this frame recently. The serial number on the bottom bracket hanger is 50801 with a separate 8EP (hard to see). I don't even know if cantilever is the correct term because it seems most cantilevers have smaller twin tubes. I have searched the web and cannot find others like this, with a...

    Western Flyer Shelby? help

I found this Western Flyer at auction recently. I assumed it was possibly prewar because of the straight down bar. [img][/img] The serial number is P531663. I thought maybe it was a frankenbike with an amateur restoration. Then I found a 1937 Western Flyer catalog online that said the base...

    Columbia Torpedo

Just found this straight bar. Chainguard says Columbia, headbadge says "Torpedo", Westfield Mfg. Co. Serial number appears to be B102092. I cannot find anything about this bike. Would it have had a tank? How many years would Torpedos have been built? What year? Thanks...

    Schwinn 26 X 1.75 tire

While looking over a few parts and tires I recently purchased I found I have a 26 X 1.75 tire that says "Schwinn Spitfire", "nylon, "Made in USA", and " To fit hook bead rim only" on it. I thought all Schwinn's were 1 3/4? Would someone explain? Thanks.

    Help with Shelby step-through

I posted photos of this old girls Shelby a couple of days ago on Fresh Finds along with another piece. I realize it is not a real "sexy" find, but I still think it is cool and have questions about it. As I look at others girls Shelby's, most do not have the curved piece of tubing between the two...

    Schwinn & Shelby finds

Brought these home today. Assume the frame is a Schwinn. The step-through has a Supreme by Shelby headbadge. Sorry, I cannot seem to post the balance of the photos. I will submit this and start again. Thanks. The number on the Schwinn is E 39674 and the number on the Shelby is either...

    Century find

I'm really excited about this Century/Schwinn I just acquired from a friend. I posted under ID asking for help with Century info and bike ID. The repaint is nasty so I'm unsure at this point which direction to go.

    Century questions

I just acquired this Century badged Schwinn from a friend. The serial number is B64468. It looks similar to a 38-39 BC 117 to me from a catalog I have, but I know nothing and can find little about Century's. The bike has been hand painted poorly. The rear rack looks like an add on and...

    Columbia kickstand and lock

Have a 1948 partial and a 1949 Columbia frame that I want to remove the kickstands from. What is the trick? Also, the 1949 has a locking fork that is locked with the key broke off. Is a locksmith my only route? Thanks.

    Western Flyer

This poor lady has been abused with red oxide primer everywhere and a late model seat. Although I'm not sure what I will do with her, she still has beautiful lines. Her # is H 24450 and I assume she is a CW. Can anyone help me with year? Thanks. [/img]

    Columbia kickstand removal

I have no idea where to start to remove the kickstand from my 1949 Columbia skiptooth. The tube/bracket is welded on. Is there a snap ring keeping the stand in place? Any help is appreciated.

    Schwinn skip tooth tandem

I was surprised to find an old Schwinn skip tooth tandem today. I did not buy it, and don't even know if it will be for sale when I get to talk to the owner, but I'd like to ask the forum how rare this old bike is? It is old, rusty, and sitting outside. Mostly bare bones, but does have two...

    Best components?

I've picked up 6-8 garage sale middleweights with which I want to do a couple of builds. I would like information about the best components to use. For example, I have an old Hawthorne that seems to be a Frankenstein and has a Styria rear hub. Is it any good? Also have Komet, New Departure...

    Restoring rims

When are old rims no longer safe? On painted rims with relatively light surface rust can they be bead blasted, re-coated, and re-laced? What tires can be put on a Schwinn S7? Only 26 X 1 3/4? Can a larger tire be put on? Thanks.

    Western Flyer

I'd like help determining an age for this Western Flyer I picked up at a farm sale a while back. The serial number is MC 58242 but it also has an AMF sticker below the seat with AMF 2016A on it. It has 26 X 1.75 tires. Can I put 26 X 2.125 tires on these rims? Also, what do you call these...
