Here is the proof of concept mockup with a box engine block. Thanks @RustySprockets . I am going to go this route with the engine wrapping the headtube.
I'm also going to switch out the car body for the normal cycle truck advertising panel.

Saturn Chili Company.....Next Stop Uranus

Years ago, there was a chili cookoff in Atlanta and one of the teams was the Saturn Chili Company. I've wanted to use that slogan on the panel of a cycle truck forever. :D . Funny how I only had to slightly change the build name. Actually with the new engine placement, I think it's mimicking a gasser even more.

As I mentioned earlier, I have been in a bunch of different directions the past week with this build. I keep trying different things and some of those lead me down different paths.

Here is some of the pics from those paths, just to somewhat show how I got to where I am today and so that y'all can see the ideas I haven't posted since most aren't gonna be used.

On Tuesday i was thinking of starting to cut on the car body and something made me think of one of my other early inspirations on this build. Big Daddy Don Garlits Swamp Rat dragsters. That led me to remembering I had the spoiler from the mickey mouse car and a set of crutches.

I have thought i might end up with a nanner for a while, so i easily pulled the nanner from Western Sizzler with the idea I would end up with the green nanner on the floating seat post.

At that point I rode the bike around with the floating nanner to see how the ride geometry was. It was almost as good as the mooneyes saddle, and definitely good enough if I wanted to stick with it.

So after the ride I played around with engine placement and drag spoiler again to noodle on the looks. After that I went down a rabbit hole of old slingshot dragster inspiration.

Wednesday I even played around with another old tank in combo with the engine and spoiler.

Yesterday (Thursday), i already documented working on the beer keg engine once I found the bread loaf pan valve covers. I posted all the pics I had for that already.

Today (Friday) I worked on not only mocking up the engine around the big headtube, but also the actual cycle truck advertising tank plate. I have to say both of these pulled me back to earth and just felt right.

After seeing how well this bike rides this past weekend, I became more hesitant to cartoon it out with the car body. The beer keg engine out front shortly pulled me back in that cartoon world. Having the engine more integrated with the frame and a little less outlandish without the beer keg, feels better, and I think shows promise to look better too.

So along those lines, I also brought the mooneyes saddle back, but with one of my laidback chad posts.

I also kinda want to switch out the single speed electra 24 fattyo with my three speed checkerboard electra straight 8 24 fattyo wheel. So i mocked placement of a stickshift to see how it played with the tank panel and the build.

You may have noticed that in one of the pics I marked up possible light placement hidden in the engine block.

Well, i have this cool Guero boys light similar to the light that I used on Hextreme , but smaller. It might look good embedded into the engine. It kinda looks like an Ironman powerplant.

KF - Thanks for putting up this illustration of your design iteration process. It's interesting to see your "try and see" approach. I like where you're going with this, and think the engine seems to feel at home aesthetically in its latest position in front of the steering tube. Cheers!

I wasnt having much luck trying to track down a proper sized metal box tk replace the temporary cardboard engine block. Then this showed up at goodwill today. Simple mockup shows that I can make it work.

Thanks, it's just the way I build 90% of the time. I'll slap stuff on in a heartbeat as I'm moving along and an idea pops up or I run across a different part. Most don't pan out, but they may lead me to discovering some other cool thing or direction.

I'll admit, I was hoping you'd stick with the car body and "cartoon it out," but I'm looking forward to seeing how you build it without the kiddy car.

Thanks. The bike just seems to be pulling me a different direction. Who knows though. Maybe next Saturday morning the cartoons will return like in our childhood.
