I remember seeing pics of those before. Cool, but I wonder how strong they are.

Worked on the shroud more tonight. I think part of the fitting issues with this shroud is probably because it was for a different manufacturer / year / model than my frame. Plus the fact that this one was beat up and JB welded in some spots. So, I was able to make the top section fit well. I still need to cut out the front of the hole more to give free movement of the steertube nut.

The mid section lined up well with the top section. But in the process the whole bottom of the shroud is cocked forward a bit. This required a bit more work on the bottom piece. I took my time and cut/grinded small sections at a time.

That recessed screw hole had some stress cracks, plus the way that it bumped inward was hitting the frame, so it had to go.

Then I had to cut some more away.

And then had to break out the cobbler's anvil and ball peen hammer to put a little more arch in there.

Finally good enough to mock up again.

Then I mocked up the angle bracket that I will use to support the hood scoop

Still needs some purty work, JB Weld strengthining, and metal work up front, but it's getting there.

I'm surprised at how badly it was out of line. Like you said, it must have been made for a different frame (year, manufacturer, etc.). I'm sure that you'll make it unnoticeable by the time it's finished.

Me too a little, until you see how different the front end of these are. My frame is similar to the first or second frame. This shroud may be from one more like the others. They have less metal holding all the tubes together up front.

I can fairly easily build out the front section using roof flashing, but my mind is working on ideas for a grill of sorts.
May have to go to the kitchen supply store for some ideas.

Will that be your shin grader [emoji13][emoji106]

If somehow I get twisted up so much that my shin comes anywhere near the headbadge area, then I think scratches from this would be the least of my worries.

Really nice work.
King, check out Alvins lab metal. Like jb weld but more pliable. It's pretty cool for touch up and making new form out of epoxy powdered aluminum in a paste. http://www.cshardware.com/tools/cla...t-lm-06.html?gclid=CKbChoSPiMYCFYMCaQodyXYAuA

Thanks, that stuff looks pretty good. I'll have to try and track some down and try it.
Local Fastenall shops carry it as well as Wal-Mart online. I love fastenall, MacGyver could have shot a whole series out of that place.

Yeah, I know a Fastenal place on the way home. From what I can see online it looks like you really need the Solvent too to feather it out.
