This seatpost was kinda oval in a few places. So I put in the vise a few times and then also beat it round with a hammer and anvil alot.

I was able to get it surprisingly evenly round and true. Next stop the bench grinder to clean and true it up a bit more.

Then finally some sandpaper to finish it a little better.

Then I wire wheeled everything including the quill wedge.

Installed the fixed seatpost and it fit well.
Changed out the torpedo grips for some red Thompson coke bottle grips that are a little darker.
The stem and bars are just placeholders for now. I have other ideas around those and I have to wait until the parts arrive.

The red one would be nice on this build. And the only one with a pad on it.:)

As for the one with the pan painted up in checks : you can box up a and ship it to me.:p

The padless seatpans like these are actually quite comfortable.


With the red line on the Bontragers, it HAS to be the red one!

Doesn't have to be :D :D . It's definitely a classier look, but there are still some other things I plan to do that may be a bit more hot rod than classy cruiser. I'll use the one that feels right with the final look.
 
I originally liked the last seat best but now with the red grips I don't know. Probably the red one.
I 'd like to see how these last bars would look flipped on that frameset.


I'll test the bars flipped, but my biggest problem with that is they would probably cover the beautiful Tortuga top fork plate too much. I have other plans for stem and bars.

So I went over to my bike stash and couldn't find a singe bike that used a 7/8" seatpost.
In Europe i always have a hard time with those 13/16 and 5/8 seat posts, while 7/8 is easily available :) Like older BMX and Dyno cruisers are so easier to find here, and parts from them as well. You can also always cut up an old motorcycle handlebar, which tubing should be thick enough to support some mass.

Yes, @Dr. Tankenstein offered up a sacrificial set of motorcycle bars yesterday. But I needed more than just 7/8 tubing. This frame is not designed to clamp down on the seatpost. It requires a quill type seatpost. Therefore I also needed a post that tapered down so that I wouldn't have to use monster washers to run the quill bolt through.

Two funky little pieces to my puzzle arrived today and pulled me off of the slacker page. Lot of activity in the build off now. It only takes 3 days to get pushed back to page 2 nowadays!!!!!

Ha. He's probably got a second closet for his sets of clip ons too. A vintage section, a billet section...
Right next to his clip-on ties.... narrow '60s , squared off bottom crocheted '70s, wide flamboyant '80s, red power tie '90s....
 
The interesting thing about clip ons is that they allow for many combinations. For example curves instead of straight bars:

Then the bar clamp could be positioned in front of the fork legs as well as behind them (frame clearance might be tricky on some frames). They are usually angled horizontally so this gives them another position for the bars if they are flipped upside down (so to say, since they don't have an actual top or bottom side, it is up personal preference).

Does this mean that Imelda Bar-cos won't show up in your thread this year? No sifting through a half dozen pair from the handlebar closet to try on? 😜

Who knows? :D :D :D With clip ons, your only limited to what bars you are willing to cut up.
 
My main reason for going the clip on route is because I just don't want a normal stem and bars blocking the view of these awesome Tortuga plates.

I'm not planning on using any typical clip on bars here. They are going to be some small ape/drag bars that flow well with the curves and edges of the frame and wheels. My initial brainstorming started with these chrome Ruff Cycles Ron Bars. You can see how they go well with the wheels.
