For today it worked. No frozen cable despite the frosty temperature...With temperatures being below 0°C since a few days now an older issue came up again: the shifter cable froze after a few minutes of cycling...
So I bought a new shifter cable and tried the following:
First I pulled out the old cable and with a ball needle on the pump blew a few times through the cable casing to blow the water out. After that I flooded with WD-40 and blew it out as well. Then I took some "White lithium grease" (also WD-40 brand) and flooded the casing with that and applied some more onto the cable itself. Then I put it all together again. I hope this will take care of the issue for this winter...
