This is one beast of a wheel. I'm glad I don't have to choose between fatties and moonies.

Here goes nothing. Gonna shave 5mm around the inside to fit over the drive side dustcap.

Good luck! And if the moon cap is aluminum, a grinding stome might fill up with aluminum particles and become useless. A dremel mill is hard to handle, so I would probably drill lots of holes and file the rest. Takes quite some time though.

Looking forward to both moon discs on your bike. Love it!

Yes, they are aluminum. I used the grinding stone until it heated up and spun right off of the shaft it was attached to. Then I decided to try one of these plunge cut style drill saw bits. It worked great. Only took a little while to get the hang of it. Not perfect, but good enough for this spot. I finished the hole off with a file and some sandpaper.

Coasterbrake hole came out better.

I truly wasn't expecting to get this far today at all!

I still need to tweak the hub guts, but I just had to get the wheel on for mockup reasons. Very happy to have found a solution to enable the fat moon combo.

It does sort of look like an eye from the straight on photo.

Nice work on the mooneyes. Would love to put the old shine to a set of them rims.

Shifters and gears. Now you’re talking my lingo. 😎

They would probably be hard to shine since they are brushed and not smooth discs.

I'll have to pull some shifters out and play around with placement. Probably be the midtube, seattube, or downtude. I just want to make sure the shifter doesn't distract from the flow of the frame.

I thought you might only be going with the front moon disked.
You could of been known as 'Half Moon Fooligan'. 🤪

Maybe I'll incorporate some Mooneyes like "FOOL" graphics on the build.

Kinda like the COOL sticker I had on SaltHammer

Loving the build so far. You picked the fork that I liked early on. Nice matching tank, love the seat. The moon disc is great. 👍 👍 almost 500 posts and already about at the halfway in the buildoff on track for 1000 posts.

Thanks man. I looked back over some of my other build threads and it looks like I've cracked the 1K mark for posts and replies a few different times. It's kinda just the way I build. I throw everything out there for all to see pretty much.

I also mocked the chainguard with the moonies before we left for dinner.

They also look pretty cool on fake gas cans on rat rod bike gassers.

Looking good!

If needed, you can clean up those holes with a drum sander and a hand drill. Just get one as big as possible that will fit through the hole and run it round and round. They have cheap sets at Harbor Freight.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I was just at Harbor Freight 2 days ago. However, I think I'm good with these holes. The brake arm side came out nice, and the irregularities on the drive side are covered by the cog.

I AM LIKING WHAT YOU HAVE GOING ON

Thanks, I'm having fun with this one.

I pity the fool who makes a headbadge like this :D :D

Was referring to the black hoops. They have a nice profile. Don’t think I would attempt the discs.

Oh. Most definitely the Jetset hoops would look killer polished. I've been wanting to use them for a while because of that raised center swoopy profile. Funny how now that I am using one, I am completely covering it up. :D
