Tank mounted is pretty boss. Long one might be nice too. You could find a nice doodad for a handle. T handle on the tank is righteous tho. 👍🏻

Will those work ok with the hub?

Yes, any vintage Shimano 3 speed works with Nexus 3 hubs. (They just shift backwards from the numbers on the shifter.)

I like it! You can conceal the innards within the tank and snake the cable discretely along the seat stay.

Yes, get 'tanked'. 🤪

I liked the mid bar shifter, I love it in the tank. That's the perfect spot.
Also, love the Mooneyes, just make sure you line up the valve holes in your final photos. You don't want Crosseyes or WallEyes!

That's my preference as well.

I'm really liking the idea of hiding it in the tank. I've always liked it when other builders have done that over the year. I think the closest I came to that was when I had the shifter coming up out of the kiddie car body on Speedfish.

I actually like the stem mount as well, that is why I took pics from so many angles of it. My only concern is that I think it takes away from the killer bars. I've had so many compliments on my rides about the bars. I just love the cockpit view and the way they set off the front of the bike in my opinion. I don't want to crowd things up by adding the shifter there for this build.

Yeah, it's cool but not ideal. I was only half serious, but I was also only half joking.

If you can put a jog in the shifter (so it bends around the cross tube), the in-tank option is super cool. Otherwise, I like the seat tube suicide-shifter.

I like the mid tube mount as far forward as possible but may not be enough for the rearward position.

I like the stem mount for ergonomics.

Tri-Polar approves in tank mount. Should be waaaaay easier with your setup. View attachment 269341View attachment 269343View attachment 269342

Tri-Polar may have been the first build I saw with an in-tank shifter. Build Off 6 was my rookie year. I still think it was one of the best trikes build on RRB. That floating tank was such a killer idea!!!!

Thanks! Wish I could have finished on time for judging. 🤷‍♂️ Poor old thing has been buried a while. Super scary in turns & planning some upgrades to make it more comfy & not have to wear Depends at speed in corners. Got a Girvin fork a while ago for it.......

Back to the topic at hand. Lookin' good so far. Can't wait for everything going into the 'Blender'. Should be cool on the other side!

Legendary build. I've had the pleasure of seeing it in person. Last pic is @Mr. Monkeyarms and me cruisin' in the background.

Removed the bell to make room to use a hacksaw and sliced out a chunk of the rear joining brace to allow room for the cable exit of the shifter.

Prior to all of this, I completely mounted both tank halves in their final fitting positions and made some alignment markings on the frame to assist in the placement accuracy of this work.

Cable run should be fine.

Tape mounted the shifter where it needed to be and started marking up the layout for cutting the tank.

I swear by this Dewalt work table. Great portable and stable work platform. We had some drizzling rain roll in, and I was able to easily move everything under the porch and continue on. Notched and folded down some tabs at the front and back of the opening to dress it up a little. Tested clearance in all three speeds.
