Good morning everyone. I looked at the fork in daylight and I kinda liked what I was seeing. It was also still slightly tacky. Maybe because of the mustard that is been aging underneath. Anyway, I figured I would first try unmustardizing using the 50/50 vinegar and steel wool. This looks promising. I am going to continue with this first just to the unmustard pattern level. Then if I am pleased with that, I'll proceed as normal with the blending and such.

Still need to do the finer blending, but couldn't help doing a simple mockup

Try a stiff brush right at the edges of the mustard induced sreas, to lift the paint a bit. Then maybe a Dead Flat matte clear to seal it and tone down the shine even more.

Finished the blending and gave the parts a good cleaning.

If you're up for the next challenge, here's what I would do.

Using the headtube as your road map, take a long and careful look at how much and where the red shows through and then carefully apply the mustard mask over the fork shroud and paint it white.

That is a possibility. I did the fork shroud in white for VerBoten. Currently, I am working on the fork wing so that I can reassemble the fork and decide how it all plays with the build. I am pretty certain that actual wing section will be shiny. Then have the two nose cones painted to match the forks. We'll see when I mock it up. Thanks for the idea. It has possibilities.

Maybe I'll even have some white and red pattern aged as you mention, but tied into the painted shapes on the tank. Also similar to the VerBoten fork.

After removing the gold paint from the fork wing, I roughly assembled the fork. I also used some red tape as a color placeholder fir the wing cones

Briefly played with the Rat Fink idea again to see it with the red forks
