Re: Let's Do This! ~SPEEDY~

Hey Skipton,

Good to here you're getting a lot of work done.

Please be careful though, with massive doses of caffeine in the early morning hours,
You might cut off something you need later, including body parts

Post some pics when you can.

Good Luck

Re: Let's Do This! ~SPEEDY~

your fenders are an inspiration! MY STRAIGHT BAR SCHWINN WILL GET THIS TREATMENT WITH THE PEAK ED FENDERS... VERY COOL!

Re: Let's Do This! ~SPEEDY~

Great to see that SPEEDY got off the Hiatus.
Hey, a massive dose of caffeine can super-stimulate the creative centers of the brain too ! Works for me anyways. Jacked up on this end waiting to see the next installment. I wanna see some progress picts too. Don't come out of that basement until you got some photos! Then make another pot O' coffee and get back to it.

Let's Do this!

Re: Let's Do This! ~SPEEDY~

Thanks for all the comments guys .... I had just the right amount of caffeine today to get stuff done but not hurt myself

The pics won't show much progress but I got a lot done. FENDERS R DONE! took me awhile to get the rear hoe I wanted it.

But I like the look of it now.

Got all the front fender braces screwed down seems to be at just the right height. And it is ROCK solid

Re: Let's Do This! ~SPEEDY~

Bighit nailed it "haste makes waste"

Yesterday I was so fired up to use this "full chainguard"
RatRodBuildOff6002-3.jpg

I spent some valuable time taking this crank off this 16" bike took of the chain ring and did not even notice that it does not have the extra hole
to hold it on the crank. plus the hole that is there is square...

Might have had to much coffee yesterday
RatRodBuildOff6001-8.jpg

Chain ring was going to fit perfect
RatRodBuildOff6002-8.jpg

Spent time gathering parts to get chainguard on
RatRodBuildOff6003-9.jpg

RatRodBuildOff6009-5.jpg

Small ring does not have the little hole for the nub.
RatRodBuildOff6008-5.jpg

Stock ring just not going to fit
RatRodBuildOff6010-5.jpg

So I think i will just use the stock chainguard ....should look fine

back to work.... got to get the tank mounted and shifter hooked up

Good news Bottom Bracket come off super easy ...

Pretty dry on the inside

Re: Let's Do This! ~SPEEDY~

Thanks pick

Catch up?... you are doing just fine time wise... I am still going to try and paint this thing  ... would love to see you use the fender idea!

Did a paint test to see if I like the colors
RatRodBuildOff6015-2.jpg

The main color is different then I expected but will work just fine..... It's the only paint I have

I got this tank from Petrohead... I dont think he was the guy who put masking tape on the "chrome" piece
RatRodBuildOff6012-4.jpg

RatRodBuildOff6013-3.jpg

Masking tape!! :( :(

Think of panting this piece now anyway

Re: Let's Do This! ~SPEEDY~

Skip, you might try lighter fluid to remove the masking tape. just put some on there & let it set, repeat a few times then use a paper towel of something soft to try to remove it. I used to be in the sign business & we used lighter fluid on almost everything to remove old tape & adhesive residue. I don't think it will hurt the plastic chrome finish, but you might try it on a spot that is not visible first. Just a thought! Let us know how it works out! 8)

Re: Let's Do This! ~SPEEDY~

A little less than 7 days  I hope you can pull it off

Everyone makes the spray stripper always look so easy... Mine never quite turn out as nice :?

The tank and fender did great but the Sears/Huffy parts just did not what to bubble up. That paint is hardcore

Ready to spray

Lots more to come time is ticking loudly
thanks for looking!

Re: Let's Do This! ~SPEEDY~ stripping paint

Hey Skip! I had the same problem on a past project. My son works @ O'Reilly Auto Parts & got me a gallon of Klean Strip Aircraft paint stripper. It is kind of a gel & worked great. Brush it on, wait 5 or 10 minutes & hit it with a power washer or hose. Wire wheel works good also & those red scotchbrite scuff pads on a drill work pretty good as well. Can't wait to see your bike painted! 8)

Re: Let's Do This! ~SPEEDY~ stripping paint

Hey Skipton,

Looks like your kicked into high coffee gear!
Glad to hear all parts are present and accounted for
You have much more patience than me when it to this stuff.

Keep up the good work!
Looking forward to more pics.

Cool, another father/son build.

Re: Let's Do This! ~SPEEDY~ stripping paint 7-26

Good to see a little helper, I'm bringing up 3 future helpers right now, the oldest will be 8 in August, the next is 4 and the next will be 2 in September. No help from any of them on this build, but most of my work has been done after their bedtime.

Re: Let's Do This! ~SPEEDY~ stripping paint 7-26

Thanks guys! sure is great when the boys want to help! :D :D :D

Almost ready for primer..... just need to clean the tank and rear fender in a few spots

Going to get up early see if I can beat the rain and spray primer
