Thats funny . I messed with arepop one I had this morning , trying to figure out how to make it wider. I welded up the spots that were just tacked, but they are so flimsy , it would be easier to just build some other kind of fork.

just a observation,LOL ,buy the way have you came up with your own headbadge yet ? seems to me you build alot of O.G.stuff and you should have yer own O.G. head badge.....Ralph....i've been away for awhile, has this been brought up before ?

p.s. love your work !

Thanks glad you like my work. For some reason I feel like a headbadge would translate to vanity. I have had a chance to have some made, but would you want a frame that said Uncle Stretch on the front.
Even US would look kinda corny. I'm only a guy building for fun , and to show others a few things I'm learning along the way.

I dont think it would look funny, no more funny then a suy named schwinn that put his name on bikes. Even though its for fun you have a lot of skill and a good eye. I think a Uncle stretch badge would be cool. If I got one of your bikes I would be proud to have a badge with your name on it

Ok maybe yall are right...lets see not counting the ones I kept....I would need 4 headbadges.   Imagine 40 years from now someone trying to figure out who UncleStretch was and why did he build bike frames.     I could have them made and send them to my frame owners and they could try to drill holes in the necks and bang in some little rivets. Guess I could send them a little tube of glue to go with them.

Ok I trotted down to my motorcycle shop and bought a 3x21 inner tube. Its a little tight on the rim, but has that cool stem that threads on the rim. Got to be straight and not fall inside either. About $14 and they are really thick compared to bike tubes. Stuck a little air in it and got one side of the tire on...then the tube then the other side. I kinda lined them up right in the middle to get the tube right first. I stuck 20 psi in it and its solid and looks good all around. Now its for sure the tire is a little small for a 4'' rim , but they will work. Should have bought two tubes , but if it didn't work I didn't want $28 worth of inner tubes laying around I couldn't use. So here is what they look like. Now I have to redo my frame to run them.

With the discount the wheels and hubs were $146. the Kendas were $18 shipped on the big Kenda closeout. Tubes are $14 a piece. Can't really count the Sachs 7 speed . After a bunch of wheeling and dealing and flipping the doner bike...I think I had gas money from here to San Antonio and back. Probably $50 and about $20 for spokes. About $212 not counting the 7 speed. .....Her is what they will look like on the bike when I cut the rear triangle off and redo it. I have about a 1/16'' clearance right now . I will have to widen the back triangle about an inch and do a few other changes so the rear sprocket will clear. Its just on there right now. Oh and then build some wider front forks...gee it never seems to end.

WOW!

I hope that beast never goes out of true for you! That is a tight fit and one big fat tire combo! Really nice work and thank you for documenting how it can be done for us. I've seen so many of these on various custom bikes and said, I wonder what's really involved in that... now I know.

Great work Stretch!

I'm going to cut the rear triangle off and build another one that is wider. There is no way for these to work on this frame. I think the guys that build a frame with wide tires plan a lot better than me. I'm pretty sure they all use a 24'' x 4'' rim and tire. This is overkill and probably one of the silliest things I have done....oh well.
