Marin Stinson 2. Surely named after Stinson Beach in Marin County. Been there. The Pacific ocean water is too cold to even wade in. 27.5" 1x9 discs. Size small frame. Looks like a big bike but fits small. Rides very nice. The fine density knobs tire tread is perfect for collecting scores of small rocks. Some dental picks and 30 minutes may get them looking better. But how long would that last. MSRP $699.

Nishiki Cascade. mountain bike. Aluminum frame. I sold this bike in 2018 and it came back via a different owner. Serial numbers match in my records. Middle sprocket bent. Rear der bent. Missing tires and grips. Tuned and ready to roll. One of Nishiki's better mountain bikes.

More of the tools:

steel file handle
1921 basin wrench by Andee Wrench
Morrill's saw set (for setting the angles of saw blade teeth)
Williams lathe wrench
heap of bike tools for way too cheap.
general tools.
cycle pro truing stand .
also not photographed, a vintage Work Mate. I like the older modes because the feet don't stick out so far and are much easier to fold up.

I'm headed to the Brazen Dropouts swap meet in Madison Wisconsin next month. The largest swap meet in the midwest. I'll take what I don't want to keep. After that I'll put some of it on ebay.

stale unfinds: bikes dismantle, parted out, recycled. Making some room.

The black sidewalk bike was painted over. I could read CMX on the chainguard. Semi pneumatic tires, mismatched wheels. Pedals are the nut type. A nut behind the unthreaded crank to hold the pedals on.

Firestone Miss GTO by Huffy.

Mongoose Racer X. 16" bike that outweighs most 5 year old children. Gnarly wheels. Looks like a Rolf design.

Norco (Canadian brand).

Pacific Evolution needed way too much work to revive.

Rallye Splash. Rims will be used for an art project.

Electra Townie in pretty good shape. A bit of dust and a bent up chain guard.

Bonus photos of customers bikes.

Huffy Nitrous. Customer came in to get a front fender, rear brake cable and a supply of brake pads.

Gary Fisher Montare with a Rock Shox Quadra 21R fork with a cracked through fork. My guess is that is magnesium.

5 more today

1973 World Traveler. One of Schwinns first imports. Japan. small frame. needs full overhaul. Your size anyone?
World.Traveler.73.JPG

Raleigh Record Mixte, about 1975. In pretty good condition for it's age.
(now where did that photo go?)

RALI (sounds like Raleigh, Rally or Ralleye) Never see a Rali before
RALI.JPG

Quest Rocket, not to be confused with the nearly same Huffy Rock It
Quest.Rocket.16.JPG

Next Surge 16, Hum, nice curved top tube design, like many full size cruisers.

Huffy Rock It. yet another one.

OOps, the missing Raleigh Record Mixte.
Close examination and the only serial number I could find was a "K" on the bb. None on the seat lug, seat tube, dropouts, bb. Odd. It could clean up nice but every yellow bike I touch just gets greasy finger prints on it.

Upgraded derailleurs & levers. Nice Suntours.

Trek 400 Navigator. In good condition. It had a tilt adjustable shock stem on it that didn't hold the bars well. Loosey goosey gooseneck gone and replaced with a rigid stem. Less rise bars. Normal seat. Stripped off the extra excessories (computer, bar ends, rack, bag, mirror). Made it in to a regular mtb. It's labeled small but it' seems xtra small. Good for a tween. Funky pushbutton shifters mated to rapid rise. That would drive me nuts when it shifts the wrong direction but if it's your only bike you don't realize its backwards.

The red boxes on the brakes house a spring loaded lever that is suppose to be anti-lock brakes.

before & after

Found this in the archives. Another BCA Rock Blaster from years ago. I wondered if it was the same bike but the serial is different.

as received last May:

Pulled this out of the dungeon today for some mods. The left crank was missing and the threads in the axle are buggered. Will try run a tap in there to clean it up. I have some BBAs for it (Big Black Apes). I'm looking for a suitable stem. Threadless, 1 & 1/8 steerer x 7/8 clamp. Also have a BBS for it (Black Banana Seat). 20 x 3 tires. I found a single ring crank with normal length crank arms. The oems were too short (and missing the left anyhow). BB repacked. Unwanted parts removed.

Diamondback Outlook.

1999.

Diamondback vs Diamond Back. The name changed over time. And the ownership changed often.

I got this bike last august. Started repairing it last week.
didn't look too bad.
remove rusty chain.
Seat post is bent and shoved in very tight. Got the cromo cheater bar out and bent it back straight enough to get it out.
bent

"specialized" cheater bar
Diamond.Back (3).JPG

unbent enough to get it out an file it in the metal recycle bin.

Crank was a bit crunchy. It took quite a bit to get the bb cups out. The plastic liner did a good job of holding the water in so the threads were pretty rusty. A small wire wheel on the drill to scrub it out.
The bb axle very worn on both sides. Does anyone rotate their 3 price crank arms? of course occasional repacking would help. This one looks untouched since new in 1999.

Brake pivots cleaned and lubed.

Some closeups of the bb axle.

BCA Rock Blaster build

serial G1509nnnn kinda matches the factory build sticker 1/14/2016.
G for genesis/kent. 15 = 2015 09=september nnnn
BCA has an assembly facility in South Carolina. So 3 months to ship the frame from china, yeh.

acquired last may.
too-short cranks replaced.
bb, hs, hubs repacked.
rusty & vintage metal spoke protector lightly painted with black, gives it a black chrome look. Like all the other chinese plastic chain guards, the oem guard disintegrated at a touch.

The fork is1.25" threadless. The apes are 7/8" so I had to get a bmx stem for it.
Just got the stem today for it so some progress.
banana seat installed with a long seat post.
bmx stem and apes.
Most of the decals removed with the heat gun.

needs: longer shift cable, brake cables & levers, pedals, kickstand.

I took the BCA Rock Blaster muscle bike back to the local coop. Today it was parked out side the front door along with some 40 -50 bikes. We run long cables through the bikes. I often loop one end through itself so the bike at one end is the anchor point. Then run the cable through the next 10 to 30 bikes with the other end hooked on a bike part. Some crack head stopped by with a pack of lies about how he bought the bike he was on from us last month, then his mother bought it, he wanted to trade for something more suitable. Walgoose bmx covered with poorly applied sparkely paint. I looked through the sales records going back to august and didn't find anything close. He was willing to trade for anything. Hum. bike coop policy is no trades, no buying, no discounts. Then he spotted the Rock Blaster at the front end of the line of bikes. Wanted to test ride it, has no money. I ask for his drivers license. Silence. He left. About 10 minutes later one of my volunteers spotted the bike being ridden off by the crack head. We both grabbed bikes and started a pathetic slo mo chase. C was on a vintage Huffy Ocala 7 speed cruiser and I was on a Schwinn Cruiser 6. C has been sick, i've spent the past 2 weeks nursing a sore rib. We were both gassed. The chase lasted about 1 mile. I saw the perp go in a house. Called the police. When they arrived, the perp came out of the house with more lies. He said someone gave him the bike, it was in the garage out back with the door open. He was still wearing the same white coat. The officer asked the perp (he knows him from priors) if he was in possession of anything he shouldn't have. The perp reached in to his pocket (bad move), the officer started telling him not to that. Out came the hand and something went flying. "empty" drug container. I told the office i would press charges so they arrested the perp. 5th degree theft and drug possession. After doing the paper work I rode both bikes back to the shop. The local courts have sunday sessions so he will probably be out tomorrow.
