I’ll let you know. Mostly got it because it was about the only line that I could find everything matching in stock in one place. But the “built for ebikes” might come in handy later, or a minimum be more durable.

Mostly together. Going to trim the 32” wide bars down a bit, trim the steerer, run the cables. That should just about do it. Will be on pause while I do a road trip.

Thanks! I’m certainly Boondoggling my way toward a high-end bike. Hoping it’ll be my new, favorite, and best ride.

If not, I’ve better learned to build a frame, can try again, and the parts are all transferrable.

Shoulda done this yesterday and finished today, but yesterday was rainy and cold and nasty and I just didn’t feel like it.

I had sunshine and found motivation today.

Chain and Shift cable. A different approach to chain sizing with the 1x10 and the Shimano Linkglide. The narrow-wide crankset was new to me, too. Was stymied for a moment when the chain didn’t sit down into the cogs.

Brake cables went more smoothly, I’ve worked with Avid BB7s before and like them for their straight forward simllicity. (Also, ISO / IS standard… has it really been long enough for 2 -TWO- new “standards” of brake mounts to be out there?!?)

I can answer that. They had to change it because it stopped working in certain applications. Nothing wrong with regular rings for regular biking, but mountain biking is tougher than anything that was happening before, the new technology was needed to stop chains bouncing off. I used regular rings in my first singlespeed attempt, and the chain came off every few minutes. With the narrow wide, it's locked up tight like Mom and Dad's liquor cabinet when they leave on spring break

Yep. Turns out the front derailleur also prevented the chain from flopping off. Without a front derailleur the narrow wide helps keep the chain on. Only needed for 1x setups.

I know, & I get it, I just get grumbly every time I have to buy a new tool or I put the chain on backwards -because linkglide chain is one-directional- I now know.

I’ve got a pile of parts from ‘learning’ what’s compatible. It’s all part of the fun.

I’m actually amazed at how long some basic bike technology lasts. You can put modern pedals on a 100 year old bike for example. But all of the sudden everything has to be re-designed. A new design does not always equal a better design. More likely it it designed to purposefully be incompatible thus creating the need for more upgrades.

Sometimes it seems a deliberate change to make bicycles more expensive or whatever, but I live in Poland and the almost sole producer of bicycles between about 1947 and 1990 was Romet. Below you can see a pair of identical Romet sprocket/BBs, and while the one on the left is almost like new they are both unusable - because no one makes the BB parts anymore. I have about 8 bikes that have these cranks, and they finally stopped making them some 8 years ago, so except for the bikes that I am selling I remove them all, check their condition, and refit them only if the bearings are damaged but still rideable while the rest I modify to allow me to fit a modern BB and crank.

Here is 'Tigger', a 2004 Romet, with a modern crank, BB and sprocket - the original parts are stored away.

I actually have a pile of these modern crank/sprockets which fit this BB, which you will see on my bikes.

Today I got around to cutting the steerer, installing the star nut, cutting the handlebars down to size, and re-installing it all for a test ride.

Still some adjustments to make, and decals to place, but the End is Nigh!

John, just read your build thread front to back. (okay, so it was only two pages, but hey) Stellar work on the frame design / execution! Like BFTD said, it looks like a boutique production bike. The black and brown accessories adds to the classy look. And, once again, your wife was right about the seat.

Now find some fitting locales for Final photos and finish this fine steed!

Waiting for time home and sunshine to co-incide for pics. Also considering pics without and then with the decals to see what I like better. The clean, clasic look has appeal, but the decals make it finished. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We’ll see.

Been busy with work, and have some catching up to do here over the next day or so. Will have something to post by the deadline, for sure.

A couple of backyard photos, so there is something finished should timing not workout well. Still awaiting opportunity to get it out into the wild on a good weather day. Been around the neighborhood a few times and I'm loving the ride. Fast, smooth, agile, and most importantly, comfortable.
