i got some colored alum ones for my bt, nice but have to be very very carefull when ya tighten down. i busted 4 of em. good thing i had extras. i still have to do some retighting on the wheels an afraid i may damage more as i have to finnish the tighting now that i have a few miles on the wheels. don't think i will go with them again. i would stick with brass ones.

I think the theory is using a different metal than the spokes and rims to avoid them seizing together.

Brass always look cool. :D

Brass all the way!

I think the aluminum ones were a product of the crazy mtb peak in the early to mid 90's. The were lighter and could be made in all those obnoxious anodized colors.

My experience has been that they break and strip much easier.

Any time I hear a conversation about building strong wheels it always includes the use of brass nipples.

Hand built, (36) 14G spokes, 3 cross and brass nipples = one tough wheel
